Hot Tamale Catering packs a lot of flavor in what they make. To start their tamales are full of meat which is great, but I prefer a nice blend of masa and meat. The meat in the tamales are tasty and the right level of spicy. The salsa in the containers that accompanied the tamales was thick and very tasty. Next, the chicken liver and gizzards were delicious, and reasonable priced. They have plenty of dishes and sides to choose from. Fir desserts, the strawberry cake was one of the best cakes I have had in Iowa. On the other hand, the lemon was a bit dry and expected more. Also, the dining area is spacious and is clean. Lastly, the service was warm, superb and genuine. A this to your list as places to visit.

The Food is The Best! The Attitude and Friendly staff makes going there a Joy. The Fried Chicken is The BEST and BIGGEST I have ever seen Anywhere in Des Moines or other places. And you'll Never Taste Better Mac & Cheese.
Make sure you check out HOT TAMALE It's where the old Dahl's used to be It's inside the Cash Saver she's got the restaurant inside for sit down @ 4121 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, IA 50321 . We got with Angie to get catering for a party we hosted. enchiladas, tamales, Pico, cucumber avocado salsa, churros, Apple chimmy's, rice and assorted sauces. Delivery was on time it was warm and the service was top notch. Will be using again support small business she serves other stuff too.

Wheelchair accessibility: Inside the old dolls it is handicap accessible as it's all in one pour in there no steps in the doors are plenty wide enough
Went in a little after 7:00 PM tonight and everything was so fresh, ordered some pork and chicken tamales, both very good. Ordered a piece of strawberry and a piece of lemon cake. Both were very good.

The food was not good. Go to Perkins! The lady is very nice but her food is terrible. Had the breakfast platter. The pancakes had black dots of something probably from the grill is it ever cleaned? Was this some kind of insect droppings? The coffee was the worst I ever had. We will never go back. There was a bug on the coffee station.
Ordered the chicken tintender meal and it was fantastic. Chicken was crunchy tinder and juicy. For sides I got mac and cheese and corn along with a dinner roll. Great value and good service. Ordered online and it was ready when I got there!! Can't wait to try other dishes!

I'm crying as I write this. I'm a single father.Have MS and I'm in a wheelchair and things have been rough. My wife left us last year because she could not deal with having a disabled child. This business helped me out with diapers for my disabled toddler today. They didn't have to do that. They did it because they are amazing people with beautiful hearts! God bless this business and these folks !!!

Angie cooks delicious original and amazing food.Tamales are the best I’ve had anywhere, enchiladas are amazing. Great flavors and a true family owned and ran restaurant. You won’t find another business owner that gives back to her community without asking for accolades or credit. She just loves to cook and give back and help people.
Oh my goodness ?The food here is so fresh and taste very good!! Everything I have ordered this far has been very tasty and it's made with pleasant people that really care about their customers and their satisfaction!!! You can just tell by the way they welcome you. Or maybe by the way I was taken care of - by going the extra to make even a toddlers order special. She ( I believe the owner) made my 3yr old up something that wasn't even on the menu around dinner time- (yes their breakfast is good, as well!!)?????!!!! Thank you ? ?
Vegetarian options: I know that woman is all about meeting the needs of her customers!!! And making sure to throw something or so extra and then keeping other out-- I'm sure she even has special dishes for vegetarians.. I had a cheese and grilled onion enchilada plate that was delicious ?
