What a gem of a place! The food is outstanding and what I remember from travels in Central America. We split a meal, and it was more than we could finish, so come with an appetite! Plus a great view of downtown Des Moines!

Quick lunch on way to drop someone off at airport- super good! We tried sampler platter and several other dishes. The staff was attentive. Super clean place and easy to talk.

Never ever would I have thought I could find authentic Salvadoran cuisine in little ole DSM.

Boy was I wrong. These pupusas are a savory delight. The plantains were the best I’ve had. Curtido had a beautiful spiciness to it. The cream was smooth and a refreshing blast. They even have the 500ml topos to cool down the heat.

I can't believe I've waited this long to come here! I pass the building on occasion and have noticed the sign but always forgot to stop in. My brother was in town and we LOVE Salvadorean food! La Cuscatleca did not disappoint! First of all, I love the retro diner vibe. Second, the food was spot-on! We got an appetizer sampler and three pupusas. The pupusas are a little bigger than what we're used to, but the taste reminded me so much of our favorite Salvadorean spot at home! The flavors were on-point and the sauces and pickled veggies complemented the savory dishes perfectly! This will definitely be a repeat spot for us!

Bad service, they had the sign of open still on and was 8.45 and didn’t want to serve me. They said they were almost closed.

I visited on a school trip of 50+ students. Melissa was an absolutely amazing waitress. I got the camarones a la crema and a horchata. Both were very delicious!! I highly recommend visiting!!

Delicious, authentic papusas at a great price!! Very filling too. I had the todo and ajo papusas and recommend both, but the todo was probably my favorite.
