I would highly recommend their Pozole. I can’t wait to have it again soon. It comes with a medium to mild spice level (at least to me but I LOVE spicy food) but I could see others thinking its hot. The broth has great flavor. Plenty of tender pork & hominy - there were bones & fatty pieces but thats what makes it taste good! Comes with a small stack of tostadas, limes, shredded lettuce, onion & a tiny side of spicy but amazing chili oil - roasty, salty, slightly nutty - assuming crushed Arbol chilis.
The tacos were good. Not the best pastor I’ve ever had but it was good. More than enough meat and everything came with plenty of limes. The meat had a little char (which I love) and their version was cooked with onions which was a nice surprise.
The service was great. Order at the counter, grab something to drink from the grocery side and take a seat. The food is made fresh, so it can take a bit of time compared to going to a spot that can turn multiple orders over in 15 mins. For me, the pozole was absolutely worth it. We picked a Topo Chico off the shelf and they automatically added it to the ticket. I’m unsure if thats always their procedure, especially when busy, but thats what they did for us.
Tamales were old and expired as the taste was rancid. I wished they were made fresh like the menudo is.
This place is very good. Tastes like real Mexican food. I order it all the time.
Really good and yummy!
Great food and customer service
Don't go to that store. That place is disgusting with the drunks and then there are the vomited bathrooms, what a disgusting place.
Great place
Very little variety of items
Good products
Omg their birria tacos are dynamite. I literally just drove to the other side of town to get them. They also have a birria burrito which is next on my list. Quick friendly service & great tacos WOW!

La Favorita means the favorite in Spanish, but this is by far the favorite Mexican grocery in Des Moines. It is small and crowded, and the lighting is poor. The prepared food they have in the warmers does not even look appetizing. La Favorita made me wait an additional 16 minutes from when the order was to be picked up. I asked if they could throw in a container of free rice, and they said they could not do that. There are other Mexican grocery stores that have better food and much better service.
I got carne asada tacos, rice and beans. Beans were flavorful, creamy and smooth, tacos were some of the best I’ve ever had… And the rice? It was so fluffy, when I blew on it to cool it off rice stated floating away. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of this place, but I’ll be a repeat customer for sure. 10/10
Good attention
