We got just a couple appetizers and they were definitely just warmed up in a microwave and put on the plate. The drinks are very expensive. Non-alcoholic Shirley Temple was $8. I was excited for a different space to play games but it's not budget friendly. We will stick to Mayhem.
Really enjoyable time here. The owners and staff are super nice, and there's a wide variety of games to play at your table with friends! Will be going back again!
Soooooooooo good so many games 😁🎮🕹🎲
This place has more games than I knew existed! Great spot for all ages. The ham & cheese panini, pretzel bites and pizza sando are all yummy. The staff is so friendly - it’s like being welcomed to their home. Can’t wait to return and play more!

Very cool business! I love that they are local and also make printed puzzles of local artists work! The puzzles are very high quality, and have a glossy finish. The food here is to die for and the drinks are delightful! I absolutely will be coming back! The co-owner was the one treating at the door and helped make our first time here very easy and seamless.
Great atmosphere to play your favorite games with your friends, grab a bite and a drink!
My friends and I went here for a catchup/hangout time. OMG, we loved it! So friendly, inviting, laid back. So many games and the food was awesome! I was so happy I could get dark chocolate in my latte! We needed help with one of the games and the owner came and helped us understand how to play and we had a blast! When we were leaving, we chatted with the owner again and told her we would definitely be back! 100% recommend!!!!
Ordered using a QR code, Mana Potion tasted amazing. Excited to try one of the paninis next time. Great variety of games to choose from.
Great place to hang out and spend time with friends.

The game selection is great! The atmosphere is amazing! The main room next to the bar got a bit cold after a while but was a full house so expected I guess. A root beer with vanilla cream (no alcohol) is $11. A Shirley Temple is $8. Judge that how you will, imagine the food prices. I just don't understand the appeal to go play board games with friends at a place that charges so much for drinks and food. You could just play with the same friends at a house and make food. Idk maybe it's just me.
Wasn't a fan of the food selection but drink where good and a very fun place
OH MY WORDD this place is absolutely adorable!! Me and my team came from Texas, and gave this place a visit on our trip to the national speech and debate trip. The food and drink were delicious. The establishment is decorated beautifully, the vibes are impeccable. This is such a fun concept too. They have a wide selection of games, suitable for everyone. If we ever find ourselves in Des Moines again, will definitely be giving this place a visit.
On a side note, we went back again today while waiting for our plane, and enjoyed the experience even more. One of the employees even showed us how to play one of the games!!
These reviews might be confusing because Rook Room used to be a pop-up event. But as of mid 2025, they have a permanent location! I was there opening night, and while they had some understandable hiccups, they knocked it out of the park. Good food, inventive drinks, and a legendary game collection. What more could you want? And there is a patto for those who don't want to deal with crowds! A must see location.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A Board Game Lover’s Paradise! If you’re a board game fan (or even just board game curious), this place is an absolute must. From strategy-heavy classics to light-hearted party games, their library is stacked with titles for every kind of player — whether you’re deep into Dungeons & Dragons or just here for a card game and laughs. The vibe is welcoming and inclusive, with friendly staff who are always happy to explain rules, make suggestions, or help set up your table. There’s a great mix of cozy seating, spacious tables for big games, and themed nights that make each visit feel fresh. Perfect for date nights, friend hangs, or family outings — plus, they’ve got snacks, drinks, and that nostalgic magic you can’t quite find anywhere else.
