The coffee was lovely, the service? Not so much. The barista seemed annoyed to serve me.

Probably the worst cappuccino I've been served. Way too hot, too much milk, tasted burnt.
Ordered their Iced Chai Latte and let me say it was absolutely delish. I love that it’s in walking distance from where I work and the staff are friendly as well; I recommend this spot a 10 just cause it’s also a good place to just sit and relax maybe catch up on some work or just enjoy the day on their outdoor patio.

I was served a flat, room temperature latte. When I politely asked if it could be re-made I was given a scorching hot latte, and the barista was quite unpleasant.
I do believe that Scenic Route is a community gem, and is better than this but I am disappointed with my visit.

I should’ve read the reviews before coming here.. staff are not welcoming, very rude and dry. The coffee + food was mid. If staff wasn’t so rude I would probably give them another try but absolutely not after that experience. It felt almost uncomfortable. Way better options nearby!

Friendly staff and wonderful owner. The baked goods and pastries were out of this world. The atmosphere was bright and decorated with many personal items and antiques. Love the Scenic Route Bakery!

Great place to sit down and catch up with others: good atmosphere, large selection for others to enjoy. Would not just stop in by myself for a coffee, the prices are too high for that, especially if you need an alternative milk. They aren't outlandish, but I suppose I've been spoiled with other local spots. If you don't want coffee, the rosemary lemonade is to die for.

Delightful bakery and coffee shop in the middle of the East Village in downtown Des Moines. Delicious pastries and other baked goods. Also selection of light meals for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Coffee bar is excellent. I've never had a bad cup! The atmosphere is relaxing with large exterior windows to watch passerby. Highly recommended.
