Usually enjoy this place and spend a fair amount on my company events. Today I was asked to leave because of a “private event” in a rude manner. #1) If you need the money for your business and accept renting out your space for corporate events, they should be done during non-posted business hours.. so that people that drive to spend money at your establishment don’t do it for nothing #2) Hire friendlier employees that aren’t rude to some of your most loyal and profitable customers. My company, including myself, will not be returning.

Fast becoming my new favorite cocktail place in Des Moines! Seasonal menu has a taste for everyone and the stand-bys are excellent as well. A comfortable venue rounds out The New Northwestern.

This place by far has the best and most inventive drink menu in the Des Moines area. It changes regularly and it never misses. You almost shouldn't get drinks here because it will spoil you and every other cocktail scene won't compare. Drink at your own risk!!

Not a great experience at the New Northwestern yesterday :( Our group of six was seated (four of us ordered and got our drinks, two were waiting for the bartender to come back to our table) - and then a wedding party of 25-30 walked in. I believe they were supposed to be seated in the lobby area (tables clearly set up for a group); however after a few minutes, the entire wedding party came into the bar area for their cocktails. Two bartenders and one server focused entirely on getting cocktails to the wedding party. And then they made shots for the wedding party. We waited 25 minutes and then my husband asked for our check, which we got ten minutes later. Two other small parties left, and our group did too. We went to the Beechwood for our shots lol

Was very excited to try this place, looked right up my alley. Requested a reservation, received a confirmation of said reservation. Showed up, and it appeared to be closed. I checked my email to find a reminder of my reservation. When I called, the person that answered informed me it was closed for a private event and seemed pretty dismissive about the poor communication.

My wife and I came for the first time. It was a great place! The service was great - she got us our drinks and followed up regularly.

The atmosphere was relaxing and cozy. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves.

This type of establishment is what makes downtown Des Moines great, whether you live here or are from out of town.

We appreciated the bartender taking the time to share the history of the establishment....very kind.

We highly recommend it and will definitely be back.
