Excellent food at a very reasonable price. We had dinner here twice and breakfast while staying at the hotel and every dish has been exceptional.
Unfortunately I would not recommend Caroline's, been here a couple times and both times were not good experiences but this last one definitely will not have me coming back. Made reservations for Easter at 1:00pm for our family of 11 (4kids), everyone ordered a drink and she took our order right away - an hour and 20 minutes later no food yet, ask the nice waitress how much longer, she informed us there were 3 small orders and 1 large order ahead of ours yet. Keep in might we made reservations for a reason. We paid our drink bill and left. Manager apologized but that was it. We heard another gentleman complaining that their reservations were at 12:45 and at 2:15 they still did not have their food either. Very unfortunate!!
Had Easter reservations at 1pm. Took 25 minutes to get our drinks/refills… and after sitting for an hour and a half…. We paid for our drinks and left. They didn’t even offer an apology! That was my first time there and definitely my last!!!!!!!
My wife and I had a short trip to Dubuque last week and stayed at the Hotel Julien. We opted to treat ourselves to dinner at Caroline's our last night in town, and I'm so glad we did. I got the Scottish salmon filet with risotto and green beans, and my wife got the chicken and sausage penne. Now, let me tell you, the food was truly phenomenal. I'd give everything an all-around 9.8/10 - the only "issue" we had with anything was that the pasta was the slightest bit overcooked for our liking, but it wasn't enough to be a "send it back" problem. My salmon was perfectly cooked and moist, and the pesto on top was incredible, While the food was excellent, however, the real star of the night was our server Thomas. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu, was highly attentive without being pushy or annoying, and was just overall an extremely kind and seemed to genuinely care that our experience was the best it could be. Whomever at Caroline's PR team sees this, please make sure Thomas knows that it truly was his service that made our night so memorable and perfect!
Went for the nye dinner special. Wasn’t worth the steep cost of $75 a person. Should’ve known when we tried called 4-5 times with no answer during business hours. The soup smelled like the smoking section from a bowling alley. Others complained of the same. Waitress was frazzled and seemed scared and confused the whole time. The online reservation still said Christmas Eve. Really not enough characters or time to continue. Just don’t come here.
Absolutely terrible food took forever over an hour was cold then was ordered to leave when I complained even though I was the attendant for a disabled customer not typical Iowa style or Christmas menu completely misrepresented by staff at reservation time
Went to breakfast with 2 others. 2 of us ate no more than 4 bites, it was so bad. My son ate not even half of his, he was sick the next morning and had to miss work. Not recommended at all. It was terrible food.
I had the ribeye, it was great. The server we had was great.

This place is the worst. The first time we came here a year ago and waited for an hour for 2 omelettes to come out that ended up being undercooked. We gave this place another chance a year later, hoping for a better outcome, and the same experience - poor service and food just blah. Don’t come here for breakfast! You’d be much better off going to Sunshine Cafe.

We went on Friday night at 6:30 and we were sat right away. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday night. We got our drinks and order in fairly quickly. It took quite awhile to get our salads out to the table. They were ok nothing terrible. The entrees were the letdowns of the meal. My wife has the pork chop. The cooks clearly didn't flip it because one side was nice looking and the other side was charred and hard. You could hear it get sawed into. The BBQ sauce said nowhere on the menu about it being incredibly spicy. Claimed it had peaches in it and of those weren't dried apricots that were reconstituted I would have been surprised. My meal was on a plate that was so incredibly hot the server couldn't pick it up. The salmon wasn't crusted in pesto as the menu describes it just had a dry crusty blob on top. The salmon was overcooked and dry and the risotto underneath lost all moisture and creaminess, due to sitting under a heat lamp for far far too long.
We were interested in going back due to a lovely sounding menu, sounding was the key word because the execution was not there.
Went elsewhere for dessert. Will not return

The food is fab, coffee is divine. Located in a lovely old hotel. Only problem is their service can be a bit slow. But I still take friends there for a bit of gracious dining.

Double check that their buffets actually starts on time or wait until an hour after advertised. Their coffee is supposed to be good but their machine was broken. Black coffee will run you a few bucks. Didn't eat here because we couldn't get a straight answer on when their delayed buffet would be ready or any other food.
