Our experience at L.May Eatery was a solid four stars. The culinary team's focus on a limited, curated menu is a testament to their commitment to quality over quantity. Every dish we ordered was exceptional, showcasing a clear dedication to fresh, local ingredients. The service was equally impressive, with a genuinely friendly and knowledgeable staff who made us feel both welcomed and well-cared for. Our meal felt thoughtfully prepared, and the personal touches from the servers elevated the entire evening.
Outstanding experience for us. We stopped on our “backway” motorcycle journey from Indiana ti Minnesota. HONEYCOMB appetizer was out of this world.

We stopped in for lunch after my son went to Dubuque to take his SATs. We arrived at 1200 on a Saturday to an empty restaurant.
Everyone was very pleasant and our waitress was personable and helpful.
Their lunch menu is quite limited and somewhat bland. I looked it over 3 times trying to figure out what I might want before settling on a half soup and panini.
The soup, a tomato lentil, was warm salsa that had more chunks than liquid with the lentils adding a gritty feel and the panini was maybe a quarter of the normal dish (which my niece got) but was at least tasty. The waitress did try to warn me about the soup though so thats my fault for trying it.
My son's chicken parmesan was overcooked - chewy and dry, I was told.
I didn't ask but my niece's chicken panini looked good.
$70 for lunch for 3 people with no drinks including tip...and a stop at McDs on the way home.

Sat us, then moved us after 5 minutes. Lack of sufficient A/C was uncomfortable. Ordered the special. Salmon was overcooked and dry, asparagus wasn't cooked enough, and rice was way overcooked (mush). Had 4 bites, sent back, and no discount offered. $34.00 for trash. Now I'm off to a show with no dinner. To be fair server was kind and attentive (although failed to offer discount on failed special). Kids liked pasta and soup was good. I didn't eat pizza but was told the crust was chewie. Last complaint, $5 credit card fee
I'm so tired of credit card fees in this area. Hard to to well we'll charged for using a card and wasting $34 on food I could eat. Sorry server, but your team and CC fees failed you.

A chic and warm bistro serving gourmet comfort food downtown. I tried the meatloaf and crab cakes — both were bursting with flavor and freshness. The house salad and focaccia were excellent too. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is cozy yet refined. Definitely a spot I’ll return to.

My girlfriend and I were greeted kindly, shown to our table.
The table was sticky
No server ever came to take our order or bring us drinks
We stayed for over 20 minutes before just walking out.
Worst service I’ve ever experienced in my life.
The staff was happily engaged with themselves at the front bar area while we sat unattended - there were only four total tables of other customers ( max group size four ) so it was not busy at all the staff was just not being well managed / kept in check.

Anna was our server. She was fantastic! The food is outstanding. Absolutely the best cheddar mashed potatoes I've ever eaten. This has to be one of the top restaurants in Dubuque!

Don't know why it took us so long to come here! Would recommend a reservation. Our first visit was wonderful, absolutely loved the goat cheese appetizer. Staff was attentive and kind, clean restaurant, not too loud either. Will most definitely be back!

Was recommended this place by my son in law. WOW, the food did not disappoint. The thin crust pizza was amazing a very large (14 in), enough for 3 people for sure. Salads were great and the brownie for dessert was crazy good. Highly recommend this place of you are in Dubuque. It's a bit pricey but portions are big and you can share

Very nice atmosphere. A very nice night to sit in the outdoor area.
We had the vegan stuffed peppers in a coconut curry sauce. It was delicious and it was worth a try.

Ordered the meatloaf dinner. Unfortunately, that was a bad choice. The meatloaf was burnt to a crisp on the top. With the red sauce on top, this entree reminded me of a smashed meatball. The dinner was priced way too high for the value. First time at this restaurant, so maybe the other dinners are better.
They may want to replace this entree with something different.
