My family enjoyed a delicious dinner here. I love the update to the milk house and it feels like a European café. It gets a little loud in the dining room with larger groups but service was amazing and we will definitely be back!

Adorable and clean restaurant, amazing food, great service! The summer panzanella is my favorite. It’s like a mini European vacation every time I visit.

I cannot wait to come back here!! I absolutely forgot to take photos of my food, but it was beyond delicious. I had the steak sandwich, and I am typically not a sandwich person, but I would absolutely get this again. The garlic aioli for the fries *chef’s kiss*—out of this world.

I can’t wait to go back and try the bakery out, and have another go at the Bistro! This place is exactly what Dubuque needed!

Waiting to be seated, menu without options and more expensive than in another restaurant of the same level. The first and last time, I felt bad with my guests because I had said it was good and wanted to try it with them. I found out about this place through a tent that was close to my house and I ate there and the service was good. But in the restaurant it was not good, I asked to greet the employee I had met and he did not come, he said he was busy. We left and went to another restaurant.

Finding a bakery that freshly bakes daily is surprisingly difficult these days. Everything was delicious and beautiful as well. The almond croissant was just the right amount of filling.

This place is amazing. It genuinely feels like someone picked up a cafe/restaurant from somewhere in Western Europe and put it in Dubuque. There is amazing coffee, pastries, bread, and other foods. Would definitely 10/10 recommend. Also recently got to try their new dinner service and the food was amazing!

Roux & Lucia: Room to Grow, But Worth a Visit

TL;DR: Roux & Lucia has great potential. If they can streamline their customer service and improve the front-of-house experience, this could easily become one of the best restaurants in town. We’ll be back for the food and the atmosphere, and we’re hopeful that with a few tweaks, the service will soon match the quality of the kitchen.

We were excited to try Roux & Lucia after hearing about its fresh, elevated menu and beautiful space. Our visit started off a bit rocky—parking was easy enough, but signage was limited, and we accidentally wandered into the bakery before figuring out where the restaurant entrance was. Once inside, it took a while to find the host, and the check-in process was confusing and a bit unwelcoming. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, only to be told the wait would be longer due to a mix-up with the order of arriving guests. It felt a bit disorganized and, honestly, no one seemed eager to greet or help us at first.
But once we were seated, things improved. The decor is absolutely stunning and the ambiance is lively—this place has a wonderful energy and feels like it could become a real community favorite. Our server, Ashley, was a highlight: friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.

The food was the real star. The burrata & pesto on focaccia was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and something I’d order again and again. The curry chicken salad was sweet and delicious, and the house chips were a tasty touch. Unfortunately, they were out of the burger, which was disappointing, and our sandwiches didn’t come with the advertised pickles. Still, the quality of the ingredients and the creativity of the menu left us optimistic.
Drinks took a little while to arrive, but once they did, we enjoyed them. The cocktail list is fun and adds to the experience.

Pro tip: Stop at the bakery next door for a giant cookie to share for dessert on your way out.

Roux & Lucia is a visually appealing new spot in Dubuque with a modern, curated atmosphere—but unfortunately, the dining experience leaves much to be desired.

Service was slow, with food taking over 30 minutes to arrive despite the restaurant not being full. When it did, the dishes felt more style than substance. The food was mediocre, lacking in flavor and finesse.

Portion sizes were small relative to the price, with many entrées ranging from $18 to $22. For that cost, guests should expect better quality or at least more generous servings.

Another downside: the tables are placed uncomfortably close together, making the space feel cramped and noisy, which detracted from the experience.

Overall, Roux & Lucia has potential, but it currently feels overpriced and underdelivering. There’s room—and a need—for improvement in both the kitchen and the dining room.

The coffee is terrible here, it tastes like what you would have at a holiday inn. The tables are so close together that it is difficult to move around and it feels like you're sitting right next to people that aren't at the same table. Their brunch menu is incredibly small and lacks differentiation.
