Baxter’s is a restaurant in small town Fremont, Iowa. My husband and I popped in for dinner to support the business that is in my hometown. The server is an elderly woman who appears to be tasked with answering the phone, taking orders, delivering orders and cashing people out. I'm not sure what took us so long to try this place out. I had heard it was good, but I would have to upgrade that to outstanding. The food was prepared to perfection. My Philly sandwich and coleslaw (with a hint of horseradish?) was the best I've ever eaten. My wife had the hand-breaded chicken strips, mac and cheese and baked beans (sweetened with molasses, maybe). All were delicious. The prices were even more surprising. I recently visited Baxers Restaurant and was really impressed with the quality of the foodeverything we ordered was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in their craft.
However, the service was noticeably slow. It took quite a while to get our drinks and even longer for the main course to arrive. The staff were friendly, just not very prompt.
