We are driving to eat at our favorite cafe in all Northeast Iowa! The food is homemade, delicious, and Jane’s pie is the absolute best! Hurry there before they close near the of February after 24 years of delicious food and wonderful community service. We send heartfelt wishes ❤️for a happy retirement! You will be missed!

Looking for a nice place to get lunch and the welcome center recommendation did not disappoint! A cute little cafe with amazing pie as well as local crafts and food. A must go!

My wife and I stopped for a quick lunch while visiting Guttenberg. 5 of the 7 tables were occupied and there was two servers working. Some how it took well in excess of 10 minutes to even get a server to our table to bring us a menu and ask if we wanted drinks. During this time one of the servers managed to hold a rather extensive discussion with another table about her degree and whether she was going to be using it or not. During this time she also shared that she was soon to be married and she had plans to open her own business.Someone finally took our order, which consisted of a turkey sandwich and a grilled ham and cheese. This took another 25 minutes to appear. There was only 1 couple that had ordered right before us. These were simple sandwich orders, not some detailed haute cuisine. The really annoying bit was when server came over to see if we needed any pie. She saw my plate was empty and said she had to go get a tray, which she did. She came back, picked up my empty plate and sat it on the tray. My poor wife was still eating her potato chips but the server reached over and took her plate, with food on it, plunked it on the tray and took off with it. Apparently if you don't order pie, that is it...no more lunch for you. Also annoying is the sign at the register announcing a fee on all credit and debit transactions, which is ridiculous. Those fees are a cost of doing business, not another revenue stream. If you are going to charge a fee, then you should have a no fee ATM in you business. All in all, a less than pleasant experience. I will not diner there again, that can be said for sure.

This was a disappointment, food was warm. I think they were overwhelmed, it took some time to get Coffee

Very reasonably priced, and so tasty! I got a sandwich last time I went here, and a slice of coconut cream pie, now I wanna try every sandwich on the menu. If you're looking for some good baked beans too, this spots got some famously loved beans. 10/10 will return.

Great food, fantastic friendly service!! Driving through on our way from the Twin Cities to Dubuque. We like to pass through small, older towns. Decided a snack would be good when we spotted the Picket Fence. The building is a charmer! Located on the Great River Road and worth a stop!!!

Had the egg salad sandwich (ash Wednesday) and potato salad with pecan pie to top it off. Lots of locals eating here which is a good sign. I would recommend Picket Fence Cafe for its quaint atmosphere, caring staff and wonderful lunch.
