I’m nearing the end of my two week visit from Chicago and just ordered the shrimp with cheddar polenta from purple door for lunch. I have to say this is the best food I’ve had during my stay! This was a flavorful dish that did not miss the mark! The polenta’s flavor popped maybe with jalapeño and onion!? I’m not sure but yum! and the shrimp tasted perfectly grilled. We will be back!

Wish I had taken pictures but the food looked amazing and tasted incredible. We had a starter of the Calamri, flavor was great but the texture was slightly chewy on some of the pieces but overall pleasant. For the main course, I had the Pasta Primavera with the Ahi Tuna. Pasta was perfectly cooked, the sautéed vegetables were bright and vibrant, the sauce was light and balanced well in the dish. The tuna was cooked perfectly for me, lightly seared with a beautiful pink throughout the center of the filet. My partner had the Fettuccine Alfredo. The sauce was well flavored and creamy, the steak appeared to be cooked well, but slightly dried out on top of the pasta. Overall, well worth the price between the quantity and the quality.
Atmosphere is like that of an upscale restaurant to match the food, very delicate piano music in the background. Service could not have been better, never felt rushed but was well looked after.

OUTSTANDING little jewel in Harlen. The service was great the food was excellent, made us both feel like we were lucky to walk through the purple door to Purple door. Stopped for lunch at the Purple Door today, as recommended by our travel agents at Four Seasons Travel in Harlan, IA. We are from Papillion, NE , and so fulfilled. Mary’s Chicken dinner salad and my Chicken Ciabatta sandwich were delicious! Our meals were prepared and presented very professionally, feeling like we were dining in New York! Our waitres, Bell, was very attentive and pleasant. We rarely order dessert, but could not pass on the Lemon cake and NY cheesecake. Highly recommend this place. THE WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD!!! I travel all over America and eat exclusively in cafes and restaurants. I was driving and wanted to eat, stopped at this (cafe), ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp and salmon and New York steak. After 20 minutes they brought the salad, I began to eat it, got to the shrimp, threw one branch into my mouth and immediately spat it out, because they were not cooked enough and they had a very specific smell. The waitress brought the steak and saw that I had put all the shrimp aside, and asked me a question - everything is fine with you! I answer - no, sorry, but your shrimp cannot be eaten. The waitress's face immediately changed from sweet to very angry, she went to the bar, took something, came back and threw my check on my table and said, take the food to the box, pay and get out of here))) I replied that I’ll finish my food, pay and leave. She walked away from my table, took the phone and began to call the police, began to lie to them, began to tell them that I was drunk and was sending all the clients and her to the same place)))) the police arrived, listened to me and her, and told me the same thing - Pay, Take the Food and Drive Further((((((((((((((((((((((((((((what should I do with this food when it gets cold?? ? I’m a driver, I live in a car, I don’t have a microwave like you, I don’t have a warm and soft bed, I don’t have a TV, my family and loved ones aren’t around - what should I do with this food if they don’t let me eat it hot, they kick me out for no reason? , and extort money (((((((((((((I really hoped for justice from the police - but there was no justice from them either. Everything is visible and audible in the video! I will forgive God for such places How is this coffee? has become as small as possible in our society, but as for the waitress and two policemen - God is here for you, He Saw and Heard Everything???

We visit Harlan 3-4 times a year, and this place has consistently impressed. Service with a smile. Diverse menu (steaks and chops, salmon, salads and sandwiches) at reasonable prices. Atmosphere is just perfect for catch-up conversations that are challenging in too many restaurants these days. Great choice.

Nice small local restaurant serving high quality food. The food is always great and tonight's highlight was perfectly cooked, medium rare filet mignon! It really doesn't get better than that, and so many other places don't get it right, but The Purple Door knocked it out of the park!
