Chaparral Los Tapatios is the first truck stop Mexican restaurant that I've encountered. The restaurant has seating for hundreds and we were the only customers at the time. Service was excellent. The food was good. Prices were moderate.

Los Tapatios was recommended by the owner of the motel we stayed at as there were only two Mexican restaurants in Keokuk. The only parking was on the main street in front, fortunately there was one spot there. When we got the menus, it looked like a good selection. Chips and salsa was brought right away but refills were not free. I ordered a combination plate that had a beef taco, beef burrito and beef enchilada. Rice and beans did not come with this selection. My wife ordered chicken fajitas which did come with rice and beans and she requested corn tortillas instead of flour. When the food came, My taco was a preformed store bought shell with ground beef, a small enchilada with ground beef and the burrito had ground beef in it. The burrito was about the size of a roll of quarters and the enchilada about the size of a roll of pennies, all on a large hot plate that made the severing size look tiny. My wife's chicken fajitas were lightly seasoned and seemed to have a lot of oil on the platter. The rice and beans were good. If you like non-authentic Mexican food, you might like this but we didn't and wouldn't go back again.

They don't fill the taco bowls up, they skimp on the meat.
We come here a lot and the service is excellent, the food is delicious and well priced. I've never had a complaint! We love it here.

Personal opinion, prolly the worst cheese enchiladas I've ever had.. Now I'm born and raised in Texas and this is in Iowa... However, how can someone make cheese enchiladas taste so bad . I've gone 2x in the last month JUST to make sure, it wasn't just a bad batch... But both times were equally as awful.. The tortilla chips were stale and HARD The salsa was the best thing served here..the queso Blanco (white cheese dip) was mediocre..not great but not awful.. The wait staff both times was not very personable...she was kinda quick..and like made us feel rushed to order..the food came out quickly..but she was on the phone basically the entire time..ignoring other customers trying to pay and leave...on a personal call... We aren't going there again..when there are 2 amazing Mexican restaurants not even 2 miles down the road and are authentic Mexican food!!! And better staff

My friends and I came here for dinner and thought it was okay. Our service was very slow and the food was just okay: there wasn’t a ton of seasoning or flavor to the food. But the meat wasn’t dry so that’s great. Keokuk didn’t have a ton of options to choose from so this one wasn’t bad but don’t have high expectations going in.

The roof was leaking and the wait staff was not very nice. We had a large group for A birthday party, so I understand they could had been stressed but they were not busy at all.
