my chicken sandwich was way overcooked and very dry and tough, it also tasted old. My waffle fries were good, but that doesn’t make the meal… Not sure if I will ever go back

Good for a weeknight dinner. Food is decent but could use fresher ingredients for the price point. Example they could use fresh bread instead of frozen and fresh steamed broccoli

Steak was bit overcooked but was still very good. Spicy spinach dip was great.

I ordered Chardonnay with my meal and after doing so I was told they were out. The waitress asked what I would like instead? I said I would take Pinot Grigio as my second choice. She came back and informed me they were out of that wine also. This is bad business I responded and she responded she doesn’t order the wine. If I didn’t just drive from Des Moines to Newton to gave an afternoon lunch I would have just left, but there were other people with me.
Food was good. We were seated but no server to take our order. Another server came to help us after she saw us waiting.

We have been here several times but the service was horrible today. Took forever to take our order. The server would take bar orders and even took a Togo order before taking ours. The Boneless Chicken Wings need to be change to Chicken Nuggets.

My wife and I came in tonight to give it a try since the change in concept for this building.
Positives: The food was delicious, I had the chopped salad, my wife had the Cobb salad with shrimp and we got some riblets.
Negatives: Almost everything else. I hope the owner sees this and is able to regain control of the restaurant before the staff completely ruins their investment. We arrived around 7:30 on a Monday night. We came in to a sign that said Please Wait to be Seated. We stood at the entrance for a bit, but the one employee we did see avoided eye contact and didn’t acknowledge us. We did see someone in the bar area, so we decided to come in and sit at the bar. Some ambiance notes: No music was playing so all conversations and noises were intrusive into our dining experience . The multiple tvs were tuned to mostly regular tv shows with no captions. One tv was playing the bachelorette at a volume that made it so we heard every s and p that was said and about nothing else. No sports were on. The lights were as bright as a retail store. I told my wife it felt like we were eating in a Target. The worst part by far was the table of servers that were sitting in uniform drinking. On duty staff was hanging out at that table as well. Conversations revolved around getting drunk. How much money they didn’t make, what guests were annoying, etc. The manager (I think off duty), was sitting at the bar involved in a drama filled FaceTime session with the volume up. Now I know all about her childcare issues. She also was bad mouthing the restaurant to her friend. Service was impacted by the amount of time the bartender spent interacting with the employee table. Quick note, one of the servers that was drinking was messing around with an order on the Toast POS handheld and the bartender was yelling across the room to cut it out and exit out of the order he had pulled up. We had almost no interaction from the bartender. She asked if we needed boxes while we were still in the middle of eating our meal. When we were ready to go it took some effort to get our check, because she was hanging out at the employee table.
The whole experience made it likely that we won’t return, although we would consider getting food to go. What really needs to happen is a culture change with your staff before it’s too late, probably involving some personnel changes including the manager. Right now the foxes are running the hen house. If things don’t change soon, I would set the over/under for going out of business at 6 months.
EDIT. TO MATTHEW HARLOW:
This definitely wasn’t a celebration of life. Nice try. Obviously you are associated with the restaurant in some way. It was just a bunch of employees being unprofessional.
EDIT TO TABOR JESS:
Thanks for your advice not to judge a book by its cover, but that’s what a review is. I’m giving my impression of the experience I had. I’m not sure why you keep saying I was there during this celebration of life, but I wasn’t. If I was, I’m not sure how bad ambiance, poor service and employees crap talking their guests and the restaurant celebrates someone’s life, but I guess we all grieve in our own way. Sorry for your loss. It’s too bad your restaurant is more interested in making excuses than providing a pleasant dining experience.

Steak will not be cooked more than you expect like most places so adjust your steak order accordingly
hand breaded mushroom breading is very lackluster and bland would not recommend

My husband, 8 month old, and I frequently eat here and love it! The food is always good and staff and management are some of the nicest people you’ll meet. It’s been a great addition to the Newton Community.

Took a while to be seated on a Saturday in the early evening. Wasn't busy. Appetizers were freezer section quality. Nothing special. Mixed drinks were ok but the Fun in the Jungle was gross. Don't get it! Took quite a while to get a second order of drinks. Like a 15+ minute wait. They were also gross. Not sure if it was an inexperienced bartender or not. Waiting on food for over 30 minutes. The fries were cold when we got them. Stale. Sandwiches looked like they had been sitting for a while. The Philly melt had no flavor. Don't plan to be back. *Update* they did comp our food. But we still have no intention of returning.
