It feels like a Carinderia (sometimes spelled as Karinderya) which is a common type of eatery that serves affordable and locally-inspired dishes. The food is ok, the matcha is 5⭐️ the service is excellent, and the ambiance is not like a fast-food restaurant; instead, it resembles a hostel where travelers can meet and greet strangers or other travelers. Pointing out the color of the room, it's quite dark. The shade of orange is too dark, especially with the walnut floor. However, I love the lighting in the room. Please refrain from mentioning or bringing up tipping. Should I simply purchase the food, or is it customary to leave a tip?

Oakland really has a gem here. Great food and drinks, super convenient order ahead and/or drive-thru, and a great selection of items by local artists for sale.
