My wife and I have given this Dairy Queen so many chances to improve, but every time we arrive in recent months, we are greeted sarcasm and rude employees. We went through the drive thru around 5:30 on Friday December 13, 2024. We arrived at the speaker and the female worker said welcome to Onawa dq, please hold on in a halfway sincere tone. When she was ready to take our order I ordered 2 6 piece chic strip baskets and was waiting for her to ask the usual questions of “what dipping sauces” and “what to drink”, but there was dead silence for a good 10 seconds and then she got snappy and asked what sauces we wanted. After getting through that, she then said “anything else”? In a very rude tone like hurry up. I ordered a large blizzard and then she was asked me if I was done in a very rude tone again. I said that was it. Our total was $37.92, but she said it in an obnoxious way. Thirtyyyy sevvvveeeen ninnneeety twoooooo. Then upon arrival to the window, she takes my wife’s card and says thank you - like I’ll take that you idiots. She gives us the card back and then proceeds to be in a hurry to hand us our drinks and blizzard but then as soon as she hands us our food bag, she slams the window shut. Not even a chance to ask any questions. We are very dissatisfied with this location and is frankly the worst DQ I’ve been to.

On the way home, we came off the highway to get some food at Dairy Queen in Onawa. The WORST SERVICE we have ever had at a drive through! We waited 10 minutes to order, and were finally “greeted” by an extremely rude and less than enthusiastic employee, who offered to take our order in a sarcastic and disrespectful tone of voice. We politely declined to order when we heard her tone. It was clear that they wanted us to leave by making us wait 10 minutes. This employee (sounded like a young woman) was working the evening of Monday, October 7th at 8:40 p.m.
We went across the street to MacDonalds and were appropriately greeted and served by a polite young man.
Management needs to hire folks who really want to work.

Such slow horrible service. Waited 7 minutes to place order when no one else was in drive thru. Got to window and everyone was standing around. Literally standing around staring off into space. Waited another 10 minutes. Got my shake it was consistency of chocolate milk. I asked to have it remade and was told “we really cannot control the thickness”
GOODNESS
Not sure why I even stop there anymore. Not only is the service horrible but I get grossed out by the appearance and hygiene of the employees as well.

Tried to order a salad- no ranch or other dressings. Tried to order chicken tenders- no gravy cups for the gravy. Fries- no ketchup. Upon leaving tried to order a blizzard- nope machine is down. If I were a manager here pretty sure I'd run to the local grocery store and get ranch, ketchup and condiment cups instead of just saying we're out. Sounds like poor management. Ridiculous.

Sat in the drive through for 20 minutes during a lunch rush because the only person with a head set took it off and no one else decided to put it on. Had to pull up to the window to finally get our order taken. Hey man take your breaks but no one having a headset on during lunch at 12:45 pm is crazy.

The last 4 times I have gone to DQ drive through, they always leave something out. One time it was pretzel stickcks, the next couple of times it was dipping sauce. Last week I ordered a 6 pcs chicken basket and only got a 4 pcs. I live several miles away so didn’t catch the shortage even though I checked it at the store. Thing is it wasn’t very busy. Tried to call, but they don’t answer the phones.Not worth a 10to 12 mile round trip when they don’t even care to get it right anyway.

Terrible experience, waited almost an hour and the entire order was pretty much messed up. Touching garbage cans than food afterwards while giving attitude when asking for barbecue sauce after messing up sauced chicken strips. Every table was disgusting, soda was all water, and line out the door to make order corrections. Staff was rude and filthy. Never again and do not recommend.

Last weekend we ordered a large strawberry Sunday. And it hardly had any ice cream in it. I asked the girl if that was a large, she said yes we have to weigh them now. I would sure hate to see what a small looks like. We have drop many money here and things have slowly gone down hill. This will be our last time go to your establishment.

First the girl taking orders wasn’t at all happy about whatever. They messed up the whole order, forgot an ice cream, the rest was horrible and pretty much melted. Kids got sick few bites into their blizzards. This place takes no pride in their work or cleanliness. I wouldn’t waste your money at this place or the McDonald’s across the road. Better off eating bag of chips fr the gas station.

3 weeks ago they were out of peanut butter still out yesterday how is a ice cream place out of peanut butter plus no ice in soda fountain machine. Will never stop here again.poor management and must have bad franchise owners.

This place has always had good food and service, yet in the recent years this place has gone immensely down hill. The service is awful and the staff is extremely rude and not good at their jobs. I use to love this place, but ever since the service became terrible, I do not want to go back and do not recommend this place to others.

Extremely slow service. For years we have tried to get ice-cream and food at this DQ and every time it takes a minimum of 10 minutes to get food. We gave it a final try last night hoping if we went inside and just ordered ice-cream it would be faster. Order went well until the employee walked back to help cook burgers. The other 2 employees prepared and served ice-cream to the other couple there then just stood there. We asked if they could make our order as we needed to get on the road. They had no idea we had an order or bothered to ask us. 1 employee failed to make a twist cone. The other just stood there watching as a machine exploded. Finally we got our order except they gave us a bad Chocolate Malt instead of the Strawberry Malt that we order. It took the cook that took the order to come out and direct the others for us to finally get our order.
