One time I got bacon from the meat counter here. I asked the young man "how many strips of bacon is in half a pound?" He said "I don't know let's find out together." He grabbed a hunk-o-bacon and put it on the scale. Then he said "Aw, wow, there's hella bacon up in that half pound." Now every time my husband and I plan to buy bacon, we say that we need "hella bacon" All thanks to mystery man at Hy-Vee meat counter. Other than the bacon shenanigans at the meat counter, I also think it's very nice that the ladies at the registers don't judge me when I go in every single morning for one blueberry muffin and a single can of energy drink... when a normal person would just buy a package of muffins and a 6 pack of beverages so they don't have to go to the grocery store daily... we've all got our weird idiosyncrasies and I'm glad to not be judged by the helpful smiles at Hy-Vee Oskaloosa for mine.

I can't believe what I witnessed at this Hy-vee location. I stopped here to pick up t-bones and twice baked potatoes for my brother-in-law's birthday. I am appalled at the 2 young gentlemen working the meat counter. First of all, the large, short kid with a long curly mullet, put his hand in his pants before proceeding to package the previous customers meat. As I was walking away, disgusted, I observed another kid with long hair and a beard putting ribeyes in his backpack, there was also smoke coming from his mouth. Hy-vee please reevaluate your employees. Disgusting! I took my business to Fareway.

The manager Ramsey here is amazing. I live in California and wanted to send doughnuts the the Mahaska County Jail to show them that they are appreciated during National Correctional Officer Week. Not only did he take the time to take the order, he arranged to have them delivered the next morning to the officers. Hats off to the lady working in the bakery department. (I wish I got her name.) Even though she was under staffed and working alone, she still got them delivered. The fact that Hy-Vee has the customer service to take an order from across the country and care enough to hand deliver it speaks the world of how America should be. Thank you Ramsey and the entire team at Hy-Vee. You've all got a fan out here in California. If I ever get the opportunity to come out there, I will be stopping by to shake your hand. P.S. I am told the doughnuts are amazing.

Nobody ever around in this store to help out when you need it. I took my business to Des Moines to shop.

10/28/2020 1:30 P.M. post prime time for lunch. ha well I thought to give the deli one more try after a few years! they had a special of 2 breaded tenderloins for $6.00 now that is a deal on any planet! knowing a good t-loin when I taste one.. I asked the gal in the deli to cook 2 of them fresh with everything on the side. wow! no problem was the reply! while they were "down" in the fryer I decided to get a med tub of the broccoli salad... humm salads looked a bit tired.. and so did the Chinese section... super tired!! I would to have thrown it out kinda tired! paid before the t-loins were up to save time. and fresh up they were! super hot! traveled the few blocks well! still nice and warm when we sat down to eat! well basics on the every thing... ketchup in a small tub, 2 packets of good heinz yellow mustard a bit of onion and a few pickles maybe 6 slices. for the bucks yup worth it! on to the salad... yea not my thing... taste was a bit old by maybe a day or two... in the past in other stores they used to use old meat from the meat counter and veg that was not the prime veg and give the B food stock to the deli to use up for no waste in the store. not sure if this was the thing here. hard to say. but if i was the hyvee corporate i would do spot inspections of the stores with secret shoppers... take pix.. maybe even video of the customer experience! that can help in re-training of help. as for the food... yea small batch would be a thing to do! and keep the food cold on the cold, hot on the hot.. and do the Chinese food as fresh! after all that is what the china food is all about. hot wok small batch cooking. they need to take a lesson from china star in Ottumwa on china food.
