The American Table / P.O.Box

We celebrated my mother’s 85th birthday in the upstairs dining. We had a room to ourselves and the staff was attentive and gracious. The owners went out of their way to prepare and accommodate our party of 20 on very short notice. I highly recommend the restaurant and look forward to dining with them the next time I’m in town. Thank you for a wonderful meal and experience!

PO Box on 10/16/2025 Salty! The sliders were overly salty, actually inedible. 2/10. The coleslaw was good 8/10. Tenderloin was fine 7/10

The sliders were a bit disappointing

The American Table is NOT a restaurant. It is a venue. The PO Box is a bar in the basement that serves food. Would love to have this description in Google when I was looking for a restaurant.

I was passing through town and stopped here after seeing the sign on the corner and am I glad I did. I've been an Iowa transplant since 2019 and travel the state quite frequently for work. This hands down is within the top 3 places I have eaten since I moved here. Food was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the vibe is awesome! Service was top notch! Highly recommend and can't wait to stop here again!

A P.O. Box experience.

Had family come from out of state and decided to go to the American Table. But due to the website not showing two separate schedules for the two restaurants. We were informed that the American Table was closed that evening and were told to go to the PO Box, downstairs. Waited quite a long time for sandwiches when there were only 5 other tables. Then when they brought the food they set the tray on another table with half hanging off, of course 2 plates dumped onto the ground and we had to wait for our food to be remade as family ate. I'm not one for handouts, but after that there was no offer of discount, coupon, or anything besides the initial sorry. On top of that, the food was not good, extremely salty and over cooked, and that was a complaint from everyone at the table.

The atmosphere is great with all the work they did to the old post office and seeing all the post office decor.

This is a really cool place to eat! A lot has changed in Oskaloosa since I last lived there and this is a great addition! The kids loved their burgers, mac and cheese, and fries. Our burgers and tenderloin were absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was absolutely amazing along with the service! We will definitely eat here again when in town!

We went to dinner for my boyfriend's grandma's birthday as a party of 10 and we were sat right away and given our drinks, and we all ordered food, but our food order never got put in, we waited for and HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES before our food came out. And it was only the first 4 people. We then waited another 15 minutes between each meal that would come out after. Our server never came to refill drinks, we had to flag her down before she even came to check on our table, and 4 of the 10 meals that was ordered was not even brought out correctly.

We were headed to Mayo Clinic from south central Missouri. Never heard of the place but took our chances on lunch. The food was fantastic. Our server was also bar tender so she had her hands full. But DO NOT order coffee. She made a fresh pot for us and neither of us could drink it. We are going back to Mayo next week for surgery and will stop in again.

We tried American Table for the first time today for our anniversary lunch. Very cool setting and theme. Our burgers were good and the beer was cold. Stephanie gave us awesome service, and was super friendly, even got us a treat for our anniversary. The only downside to the whole experience was having the boss come out and rip on the staff about silverware in front of customers. It was uncomfortable for us and dehumanizing for them. Not very professional.
