At the Windmill Cafe, I ordered the Hot Roast Beef sandwich. It was a delicious blast from the past. I used to have a similar dish at my aunt and uncle's cafe a half century ago. My meal was so good that I started eating before I thought to take a photo.

Very friendly staff and rapid service. I don't think it even took 10 minutes to receive our food and it was absolutely delicious.

We went on a two-lane trip to Pella, Iowa on April 26,2025 for Koningsdag, or Kings Day. Pella is a celebration of tulips with reconstructions of real windmills. A town crowded with people taking pictures and touring the Wyatt Erp home. We had made a plan to complete this small town experience by eating in a local icon with comfort food and a little of the culture. The big decision was breakfast or lunch. Incidentally, we made a critical thinking mistake; when we arrived in town at 9:30 a.m. in the morning we did not go to the bakery to try Dutch Letters. Within just an hour or so, the line was a block long and we have missed an opportunity for a breakfast snack. By 11:00 a.m. we were hungry so we decided to beat the lunch rush at the Windmill Cafe, which we barely did. The interior of the cafe is what you expect although actually quite large with two tiny bathrooms and lots of booths. They move their food out well from their large kitchen in the back and an adequate staff. Unfortunately, the food is food-service category. We were advised by the server not to order the open face turkey sandwich; the turkey is deli turkey and uses the same brown gravy as the open-faced beef sandwich. We ordered the open-faced beef sandwich and it was filling, but just food service beef. The key lime pie was simply a manufactured chiffon type pie with lime flavoring. We would not have gone here during the festival if we would have known about the quality and presentation of the food. There are plenty of food street vendors in the Sholte Garden to the north. We recommend carrying snack items in a day pack and graze when you see something that appeals to you such as in the meat store. We loved the experience in this town, but the restaurant was time consuming and not worth it.
Awesome food, awesome service! We have never been disappointed in this place. I might add it's very clean and easy to get to and reasonably priced
A Gem in Pella. Come for a quick trip to town and had a great breakfast.

I personally would have liked the buffet food to have been hotter(temperature). Rest of group were good with the food.

So me and my wife have been going to breakfast for their buffet every Sunday for about a month. Last few times it has given us diarrhea within an hour or two. We weren’t going to go again but decided to try it again just to see and here I sit on the toilet. Been on the toilet 3 times since I left there in 2hrs. We won’t be returning to pay $32.90 for diarrhea

Went there after staying overnight in Pella to go to the opera house.. We had our usual simple breakfast of eggs and ham and wheat toast. I was impressed by the nice piece of ham that we received. Our waitress was very nice as well.

Hot beef sandwich every time. My other half orders different items each visit, and the food is always good. Fresh, locally made pies! Strawberry Rhubarb and Buttermilk Pecan pictured! Always busy (a good sign), and with excellent service, the crowd moves very timely!

Good dinner with a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items. Located on the main square it does get busy. Service was good and our food was served quickly. The hamburger was good and my family said their meals are also good.
