I am getting frustrated with myself for forgetting to take a pic of my plate!
The restaurant was Lid's Bar & Grill in Waukon, IA. The meal was the iconic Midwestern sandwich, the pork tenderloin. It is hard to overstate the attention and affection given to this delicacy by Midwesterners, there are social groups devoted to it, people travel across the region searching for the perfect one, thousands of words and descriptions have been posted, this is not a drill, tenderloins are serious business.
I had just finished an arduous, fast gravel race, and was famished. There was only one dish on my mind, and when my companions asked if I had a restaurant in mind, I replied, “Somewhere with a tenderloin!”
As I stowed my gear and recovered, they worked their phones and came up with Lid's.
We arrived and immediately noticed the large banner out front proclaiming “Iowa's best breaded pork tenderloin 2022” Bingo! This must be the place.
The service was outstanding, my party of three were there at noon, yet the super efficient server, Kim, was attentive and chatty! Not in a hurried, friendly-for-a-tip kind of way, but in a genuine, personal, heartfelt way that makes one feel good about more than lunch. On a personal note: Thanks Kim, you made an already great day just that much better!?
They have won awards for their tenderloin for good reason, I have had few better. All three of us, who are by nature chatty and convivial, fell silent as we devoured our delicious sandwiches. The breading was tasty, but not overly so, allowing the tender and flavorful pork to shine thru. If you are an aficionado of this sammie, then you are all to aware of the pitfalls of too much breading, the loin being too thin, too dry, overly crispy… making a tenderloin is one of those things that is easy to do, but takes mastery to do right. The kitchen staff at Lid's are masters.We all had fries as the side, and unilaterally found them perfectly done and absolutely delish, mine disappeared in seconds. If you are in the area, go. If you love the pork tenderloin, go. If you aren't in the area take a road trip and go. You may have had a tenderloin in this class previously, but I guarantee this one will be right at the top of your list.

I stopped in craving a burger and fries after a day of fishing and got exactly what I wanted. Though it was good, I really wish I'd ordered the breaded tenderloin (next time!) . Service was very friendly and fast and many customers complimented the staff on how good their meal was. An Old Milwaukee Beer to wash it all down was a nice bonus.

The tenderloins and burgers were delicious. It was quiet in there in a Saturday for lunch. The service was excellent. I've rarely had a tenderloin as flavorful as the one served here!

I orded take out and had the Rib lunch special that came with mashed potato and beans the ribs were done perfect and taste was great , I have also ordered burgers last couple times and they have been great as well will definitely keep trying more food from here
