We had to make an unexpected trip to Iowa from Missouri and needed last-minute hotel accommodations. I reserved two rooms but somehow it only booked one room. I called the number provided before arrival and got the front desk. He was very helpful and was able to fix my reservations for me over the phone. When we got there he was very polite.

Walkability: It's within walking distance of a convenient store, a fast food restaurant and a truck stop.

The room cost 70 something dollars. The first room they gave me the door didn’t shut (room 248)
and it smelled like pool ass and mildew. Why does everything smell here? The door to the first room didn’t shut in a manner where it wasn’t framed properly so you could see the hallway while the door was closed and people can see inside your room. And the room was super not updated think 70s fixtures. it seems like at some point they rented carpet cleaning equipment from the grocery store and mold smell set into the carpets because of them not hiring a professional company with quality equipment that sucks the water back up properly. The second room they gave me smells like fruit roll ups so they’ve treated the carpet with something to try to mask the smell. Head aches from the smell , hurray. Obviously, they’re trying to cover up the smell in the second room. Too bad the windows don’t open at all. And the fan of the bathroom doesn’t work so it’s not like I can turn the fan on and then it will be pulling air either from the hallway which smells worse, or through the air conditioner, which means it would be coming from outside, which would be a win.

In hindsight, they need to pull up all the carpets in this place! I’m not sure how I’m gonna be affected. I’m I hope I’m not one of those people.

But at least this room has an updated bathroom although the fan in the ceiling doesn’t work at all …… so that I can try to air it out. (Room number 247)

You can’t open the windows. Sheets are paper thin so I asked for some extra ones to try to make the bedding nicer and he said he only had one left and it’s got so many cigarette burns all over it. Not sure why it’s not in the trash. The walls have drip marks on them from the bathroom fan not having been working for so long. . mirror definitely needs to be cleaned, and tile floor grout is as dirty as an ashtray😂 using dirty water to clean the floor makes grout dirtier, or mabye they use swiffer wet jets. Those pads also make things dirtier.
For reference I own and manage a residential and commercial cleaning company

Really nice front desk person. Motel seems to be in the process of being updated. They are doing a great job. Our room was very clean and only a few things to complete. We would probably stay there again

I would recommend not mentioning breakfast, it’s misleading. A quarter gallon of milk 2 bins of cereal and a waffle maker is not breakfast. No coffee , muffins, bread, fruit, yogurt, everything was empty at 8 am.

Rooms: Older but clean. I had no problem with the room

We didn't intend to stop here, but with traffic issues and whatnot we were in the middle of nowhere and ready to stop. I'm so glad we did. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The Mexican restaurant attached to it was fabulous. This was a great place to stay. My only suggestion is that they need more pillows on the bed. The king size only had 3.

Don’t dismiss previous reviews about the smell. I did because I was only staying one night. I woke up with a very sore throat from the mildew/mold smell in the room that was present upon arrival but also from cigarette smoke coming from the vents that I guess came from another room. I asked the front desk person (possibly the owner) if this is a smoking hotel, he said no. I told him about the smell and he said “okay.” As for the mildew smell, he blamed it on “the AC unit is on because it’s been hot.” I turned the unit off overnight. I slept with my shirt covering my nose and I barely slept because of it. I have been traveling cross country for days and this was my last night before reaching my destination. I’m writing this before I leave to my final destination, but I’m leaving hours before originally planned because I cannot be here any longer. Also, I had the unfortunate experience of kneeling down on the floor to grab something and I caught a whiff of the carpet smell… mildew is present all around. I would stay somewhere else even just for one night if I had a redo.

It's a Days Inn but the staff was excellent and price was right. Five of us were unexpectedly comfortable on our 2 king beds and pull out sofa. Grateful after a long drive.
