We had pizza at Gilroys tonight! It is the best thin crust pizza around! The margarita is my go to and my husband gets the sausage and pepperoni! Besides awesome food, the staff goes above and beyond!! Erica was our gal tonight She is a very attentive, Awesome server! Thank you Erica!! Keep up the Great Work!!

Overall, gilroys is a great place to eat day or night as it's very predictable on the level of service, food, and environment you're going to get. Some of our favorites are the jambalaya pasta and chicken sandwich.

Wheelchair accessibility: Small ramp heading towards the front entrance with small incline. Once inside the building, flat surface for wheel chairs other assist devices.

The music is unbearably loud. It takes away from the atmosphere, and it lasts an incredibly long time. It’s a really confusing move for management to make. The food and reliable service would be good, but the music makes the experience less than desirable.

Nice place, easy access. I had the soup and salad combo for lunch because I have to watch what I eat these days. It wasn't exciting, but it was good and filling.

Parking: I was there for lunch and there was parking available. It might get crowded in the evenings and weekends.

Gilroy is as great! It’s always one of my favorites to have when I’m back in Des Moines. The service is always excellent and I love sitting on the patio.

On August 30th, we hit Gilroy’s around 11:30am and were greeted by a very cheerful and engaging bartender, Erica who greeted the three of us as we sat at the bar.

We had shared that we were celebrating my wife’s cancer journey and just found out radiation was not going to be required as part of the process. Believe me when I tell you this Erica girl’s reaction was like she was in our family. We enjoyed the Red Berry Basil Cranberry- Lemonade craft cocktail and mimosas. Erica’s pour was perfection. I might add their soda selection includes Pepsi products and their Diet Mountain Dew is a perfect vintage-one of the best syrup/carbonations I have had, not typical in a bar or restaurant.

We ordered the Cheese Curds that were a very light tempura fry with amazing homemade ranch dressing.

I ordered the Fish and Chips which was also a tempura batter, but it was well seasoned and hand battered. Most times I find restaurant Fish and Chips too bland, but this was some of the very best I’ve ever had. It came with Parmesan French fries that were amazing. The coleslaw was perfect and not overly sweet. Even the spot on ‘tart’ tartar sauce was homemade and delicious. Erica also served up malt vinegar, offered by her.

My wife and sister-in-law split the special of the day that was a Crispy Salmon Sandwich. This bugger should be a daily feature! It was seasoned with a light crunch, but the salmon was perfectly moist and not overcooked.

While we were 1/2 way through, Erica presented a card to my wife (we have never met Erica before) that was a congratulations on her good news. The entire kitchen staff and servers signed the card, including Winston the dog, complete with a mini paw print. It also included a generous gift certificate. All three of us cried, and I can tell you with specificity, none of us, two with prior service industry experience, have ever experienced such a personal touch from a complete stranger. I am tearing up simply writing this review.

I will be back for the Fish and Chips for sure, but more so because of the way Erica made us feel.

After several less-than-stellar visits and an absence of a few years, my partner and I decided to give Gilroy's another shot. My wine arrived in a glass bearing the lipstick of a previous patron. When I asked for a different glass, it was swiftly replaced. My partner ordered rigatoni with Graziano's sausage. While tasty, the sausage seemed like an afterthought--a few measly pieces were buried at the bottom of the dish. I ordered grilled chicken from the "steak night" menu. It was supposed to come with a garlicky sauce. The server apparently thought I said "no sauce" (I didn't), so the chicken arrived naked. I asked for the sauce, which came out pretty quickly. I couldn't tell if the chicken had any seasoning. It seemed like the only flavor was from the sauce. The sides were great--cripsy red potatoes and garlic green beans. I made the mistake of not inspecting our tab before paying the bill. I was upcharged for the sauce that was supposed to come with the chicken in the first place. Based on this visit, we won't be rushing back.

Great menu, amazing service, delicious and correct temp food!!! I will be going back again and again!! Our server had a 22 top and handled everyone like a pro!!
