For the manager as a customer I’d like you to know I only rate your donut shop a 3 out of 5 specifically due to the unprofessional service received by an older woman who said she’s been a bakery chef for over 30 years. She was rude, unwelcoming, unfriendly all of the above etc. the type of staff you do NOT want working customer service (!) She makes people not want to return type of person. Extremely bad experience. She gave bad attitude and was smart ass-ish with customers. Whether racism be the case, having a bad day whatever she wore it on herself and didn’t care if she was at work and clocked in on the job. Unprofessional. I hope after over 30 years bakers experience she is that good of a chef to keep her around because she was just nasty to customers. Witnessed and experienced myself. The customer in front of me was purchasing a cinnamon roll and seemed happy and excited to be trying something new when she rudely commented how she’d been a bakery chef for over 30 years when the customer mentioned excitedly how golden one looked vs the other just looked lighter and she rudely said with bad attitude and an ugly look on her face that she couldn’t see a difference that they were all exactly the same. The customer asked for the “more golden one” vs the “lighter colored one” and again very rudely and unwelcoming with an ugly look on her face said oh… no! We don’t do that here! That was so disrespectfully rude and unprofessional of her. I felt so embarrassed watching her customer service with my own eyes and having to witness the service I was next up to receive made me instantly feel like turning around and walking out, I just had to. That lady made me uncomfortable. She was extremely rude and unfriendly. No establishment with poor customer service deserves anyone’s business and until she changes her attitude and customer service I will continue to warn people of the experience they may have at this specific donut shop. I wouldn’t recommend her poor customer service to families or to people planning on taking their children or child as she may just be a fun bomb waiting to ruin people’s happiness and excitement! Please have a chat with her what it means to have better customer service in this day and age. She needs to get with the time, things change and she needs to have way better customer service. That or don’t have her specifically dealing with customers as she needs a lot of work in herself first. People skills first and foremost. Take care, I wish you well. Good luck with her🙏💞

I go here every time I am in Des Moines. Please, from the bottom of my heart, will you open one in Ames? -- signed a gluten-free girl craving donuts.

Went to Hurts Donuts to order an apple fritter for my fiance. When we got to the counter the girl at the front said they were out. No recommendations were made or a heads up on when they usually make apple fritters. We proceeded to get a half dozen donuts instead. I told her I wanted a long john and she completely ignored what I said and put a cake donut in the box instead. I had to tell her again I wanted the long john. We decided to give Hurts Donuts another chance a few days later since they were closer to our house. We order apple fritters on the app so they have proper notice to make them. We drove 45 minutes into town and received a text, right when I was pulling into the shop, that our order was canceled. In the future it would be the best course of action to call the customer and make suggestions of substitutions or explain that you don’t have the ingredients to make the apple fritters. Just like that, you lost a potential regular customer.
Anyone else who feels a type of way about Hurts Donuts & their lack of customer service, I highly suggest you check out Chuchu donuts for their cronuts (maple or glazed), donuts and most important… Apple fritters. For a second option I would check out Ambrosia donuts in Ankeny.

Myself and two of my friends just left this place. We got two doughnuts and two coffees. Our stuff was very wonderful 10/10 but the man that was our cashier/server was very weird. He creeped all three of us out VERY badly. He just weirdly stared at us the whole time but especially when we sat down at the table and he was in the room making food while staring at us so uncomfortably and giving dirty looks through the window. I’ve never met this man a day in my life but to say I will not be coming back if he’s working is saying the least. But our coffee and doughnuts were very amazing still.

Amazing donuts. Shockingly committed performance of “Please Don’t Talk to Me” behind the counter.
Picked up some donuts on December 21st around 7:30 PM to celebrate the holiday break for the kids. The donuts themselves were great, but the experience at the counter was a little less sweet. The young woman working seemed extremely annoyed to be there and made it very obvious anyone who came into the store was an inconvenience. The donuts were shoved across the counter before I even finished paying, and then she walked away. I came for donuts and good service, but only one of those rose to the occasion.

24 hour gourmet donut shop - the best over the top donuts in town. Take your donuts to go - the dining area is nothing fancy.

Too many times I've spent too much money on what looks like tasty donuts, only to bite into DRY donuts; Yuck! No more Hurts donuts after having the exact same experience, again tonight! There are other businesses that may not be open throughout the night or have the variety, but the quality is much better!

Great experience!! A little pricey, but worth it! They have gluten-free-ish donuts which was perfect for me. We sat and ate our donuts at the restaurant, and we got to watch them make more donuts right in front of us! My kids loved watching the worker make donuts and donut holes! Thanks Hurts!
