We love our visits to Maxie’s! Anna and her staff are always accommodating. The food is spectacular. Hot beef is favorite. Recently, the new Thursday special has been fried chicken. Don’t walk, run to try it out!! It’s some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had!!

Dined at Maxie's supper club on a recent Saturday night and the special was Prime Rib - it was fantastic! Classic atmosphere too!

My sons and I went to Maxie's for my birthday. We had heard many good things. I was especially excited to try their rarebit. I had been cautioned that management/ownership had changed but they had promised to keep things as they had always been.
It was moderately busy when we arrived. We were seated immediately & our server was prompt and very friendly. We started with the cheese curds. We agreed these were, hands down, the best cheese curds we'd ever had. They were very lightly breaded not over greasy. Served with ranch & what we detected to be Graziano's Mariano Sauce.
For our meal, I had the rarebit. Both of my sons ordered the chicken marsala. It was a pretty long wait for the food all things considered.
The rarebit was very disappointing. It was a burger with plan melted cheese. Not a flavored rarebit sauce like you expect. Just a very bland melted cheese. Nothing special certainly not for $17.95.
The chicken marsala was equally unimpressive. Noodles with chicken pieces and a couple mushrooms. Really lacking anything creative, special just nothing there. $22.95 a piece
This may have once been a very nice place to eat. Whomever is cooking there now is not living up to the hype of it's past. What a waste of money. A complete disappointment for my birthday dinner. We chose not to stay for dessert.
We will not ever go back. The server was great. She never stayed at the table too long. I got the impression she didn't want too much feedback. It wasn't too loud but it never filled up either.

I love the old-school supper club vibe! The staff is so welcoming and eager to make your visit spectacular! Everything was wonderful! From the perfectly-breaded cheese curds, and my husband's juicy burger, to my tender and flavorful prime rib special! The prices are great considering the quality of the food and portions. Everything was perfect for our first time! Can't wait to go back!

Honestly, it might be the best bang for your buck restaurant in Des Moines. Great food. Great service. Anna, the owner, is the best as well!

I've not had fried cheese curds from everywhere in the metro, but from places I've had, this place is the standout.

I had heard good things about Maxie's so I thought to give it a try. The best part of the meal with the appetizer by far, I had seen alot of pictures of the food and when my food came out I was extremely disappointed and it tasted exactly like my disappointment. For the food, you would be better off going to many other places at the price they are charging.

The food and service left nothing to be desired. The cost was a little high, but then anything good is these days.

Had a great lunch at Maxie's as always. I have many food favorites at Maxie's and today I had the Rarebit Burger and Onion Rings. The onion rings are crispy and the sandwich cooked perfectly. We were seated right away, and our order taken quickly. Maxie's is one of my top two favorite restaurants.
