We stopped in for a much needed family dinner with it 6 &4 year old and 6 week old and were nervous about making it through the meal with good behavior. Everyone from the servers, bartenders, and even guests showed us the greatest kindness and most understanding and the food (specifically the prime rib) was a complete 10/10. We might be back every Friday
My wife and I decided to try Maxie's as it is a long time restaurant in the Des Moines area. This was a Thursday evening and it was not especially busy. The wait staff was attentive and personable. We had a bottle of wine and split a steak. I would say if you live in the neighborhood it would be fine to go to. The food was passing, but not exceptional and it felt a little run down.
The server was awesome and got our personalities which made it fun. My raspberry mule was delicious but my friends tasted like trash so there was beverage inconsistencies. There was food and white stains on the floor and candy wrapers. The food was ok and reasonably priced. Other items were a bit pricey though. It was a toss up of good service and food versus bad maintenance of cleaning and drink making.
