Amazing little shop! Stopped for lunch with my family after taking my dad to some doctors appointments in Des Moines. I had the #1 with Italian dressing. My husband had the meatball sub. Both of us agree it’s the best sandwich we’ve ever had!

Every time I come back in town to visit the family, Pickerman's is always the place I need to stop by for lunch. Delicious food always

Atmosphere:I really enjoy small, quiet, non-chain restaurants, and Pickerman's is just that. Not a modern aesthetic vibe (exposed brick, black trim, bare concrete floors, bold logos); definitely more of a country eatery with its standard wooden kitchen chairs and tables with green checkered tablecloths reminiscent of grandma's house. And the counter is kind of like an old post office. Additionally, the bathrooms were clean and smelled fresh.Service:We were greeted when we walked in and then again when we ordered. When we noticed the pastries, the man at the counter happily told us what each was and said which one was the favorite. The order was ready in a couple minutes.Food:The Numero Uno sub was something I'll definitely go back and get next time I'm in Iowa. Lightly toasted and warm, it was unusual for a lunch meat sandwich (in my experience), but very good. Highly recommend.

Looking for a quick bite after a nearby business meeting, Pickerman's hit the spot. I grabbed a turkey sub, lightly toasted. Bread and ingredients were fresh, comparable to sandwich chains. The fact they are local and small makes supporting them that much tastier. I noticed signage pointing out they have some very tasty bread, which I agree, but if you're more of a I'll take some bread with my meat sammy gal (or guy), then double up on the meat. This bread is thick! After reading some reviews, I wish I would have grabbed some soup but I was in a hurry to get checked in to my hotel. I noticed there was a lot of random shopping in the area, lots of discount stores and thrifting. Pickerman's is in a strip mall and could easily be missed, but worth checking out if you're looking for a quick lunch in the area.

This is a place that I can count on to have a good lunch. They have a nice selection of soups and sandwiches. Today we got a roast beef sandwich, a reuben sandwich, loaded baked potato soup, chicken tortilla soup, a bag of chips, and macaroni salad for $25. I do wish the reuben had more sauerkraut and that the mac salad was more than a few bites. They also offer deliver on their website.

Hours are listed wrong. Closed at 2 not 3. Also said they offer chicken noodles but they didn't when we stopped in. Pulled up right when they were about to lock the doors but he let us come in and order.

Great food and great customer service. Tends to be busy around lunch time but we’ll worth the wait.

Best sandwiches and even better cookies. Try the lemon cookie.

Stopped in for lunch as I had an unexpected appointment and happened to be at the UPS store next door. I got the turkey avocado 6 inch sub to go. Food came out very quickly and service was polite and efficient. My sandwich was on a nicely toasted roll with a nice serving of all the goodies, and was fresh and tasty. Prices were reasonable, and the dining area and restroom were clean and well kept.

Ran an errand in that part of town and stopped in for a quick oven roasted chicken breast sandwich and it was delicious, served warm. I've heard good things about their soups here also, I will be back to try more items from the menu.

I really like the soup and cheese bread. Quick service, good if you don’t have much time fire lunch.

It is a nice quaint sandwich and salad shop with good ingredients. My only concern is the nostalgia I feel for the roast beef sandwich back in the late nineties at the (Now Closed) Ankeny Pickerman's. The roast beef was roasted and the special sauce had an ample amount of horseradish and melted cheese. It can be amazing with a cup of soup.

I ordered a delivery "lunch bag" and it is not worth it in my opinion. I ordered a BLT which came on a cheap roll( you get better quality bread at Subway and Jimmy Johns which is saying something). The meat was not bacon but more of a bologna/olive loaf situation and the shredded lettuce was witty and brown. My sides were a bag of Doritos and I got the chocolate chip cookie ( which is literally just a Hyvee cookie wrapped in plastic wrap. Maybe they have better soups but I'm not willing to try it out again.
