My adult daughter and I made reservations based on Amano's reputation and Chef's James Beard award status. Our dinners exceeded expectations. We had the ceviche with salmon and the lingcod tartare appetizers, which nicely contrasted each other, the former being sweeter with grilled pineapple and the latter more tart with lime and guava. My daughter had the Carnitas Michoacán pork, which was perfectly seasoned and braised to fall-apart tender. I had the Baja fish tacos made with fried lingcod, which exploded with complex flavors. The slaw on my tacos was happily very spicy. My spice tolerance comes from years of experience and exceeds what most folks can handle, so others may want to accept their waiter's suggestion to dial back the spice. I did not and was impressed with the heat in a good way! Our waiter elevated the entire experience by being knowledgeable, pleasant, conversational, warm, and friendly. I felt I was having dinner conversation with a friend. Karen, the general manager who is so kind and friendly, served us the tres leches cake, with lavender and blackberry. I get nervous about a dessert with lavender because of how easily it can overwhelm, but the balance of flavors in this cake was brilliant.
Though we were there for 2 hours, we never felt the least bit rushed. This is as it should be with an elevated dining experience, rather then being rushed through the meal so the next dollars...I mean, customers...can be seated.
Other reviews here on Google criticize the service for being too slow. Going to a restaurant like Amano is a legitimate fine dining experience, a time to relax, enjoy the company you're with, and enjoy a well-crafted meal from true artists. If this isn't your thing, that's on you, not Amano. Likewise the food. Yes it's pricier than other restaurants and if you can't understand why that is, that, again, is on you.
Chef Salvador, Karen, and team, thank you for providing the Treasure Valley with a truly genuine fine dining experience!

This is my absolute favorite restaurant ever. I get the carne asada tacos every time and they are always PERFECT. I have celiac and the staff is very knowledgeable about what can be made gluten free. The menu is not labeled gluten free but there are only three menu items that cannot be made gluten free. My partner has tried a lot of different dishes and they are also always delicious.
If they were located in Boise, I would be in on a monthly basis!

Such a fun restaurant with fantastic service and amazing food! Our server was funny, attentive, and super nice. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and he did such a good job. The drinks were very good and the tres leches was dreamy. We'll be back for sure. Thank you!

Went for dinner and had the chili rellenos. The flavor was good but they were served in a lot of broth, so the potato cakes turned to mush and the chili relleno was very difficult to eat.

Enjoyed dining at the bar and chatting with the (very knowledgeable) bartender about Mezcal. The food was excellent & everything is obviously made from scratch by hand. Don't miss this place!

Wonderful as always. Delicious food. The only thing this time was the service was a little slower than usual. And they ran out of hot towels. So we didn't get the regular ones. That was disappointing as we brought family from the East Coast to eat here because we love it so much. But the food and drinks were great. Highly recommend.

This is the best ethnic Mexican food I've ever had. It definitely earns its high standing. Nice experience in taste & atmosphere. Our favorite Idaho winery(Scoria) was offered too. A++
