Not much for choices in the way of restaurants in this town but boy we picked the right one! Very busy place which was a good sign. Great home smoked barbecue meats. $4 drafts……are you kidding me in this day and age? Good portions, good value. Our waitress was the owner which say a lot. Highly recommend.

Good things first: dog-friendly on the patio; service was excellent; great atmosphere. Now the food. I’m from the South and have a hobby of trying out BBQ whenever I travel. I’ve been all over the country and have had some interesting experiences. This was one of them. First off, the brisket. What was ordered was not was what was given. However, after confirming with the waitress, she said it was brisket. Interesting. It was more like chuck roast. While it was good, these are totally different cuts of meat. Brisket coming from the chest area. We did see someone who was given something that looked like brisket, but they called tri-tip. As we didn’t order it, I couldn’t tell you how it was, but again- different cuts of meat. Tri-tip coming from the bottom sirloin. None of these are interchangeable, as they are DIFFERENT CUTS OF BEEF. It is extremely important in using the correct terminology (though considering the rave reviews, people don’t know the difference) if you advertise yourself as a smokehouse. Potato salad definitely store bought and not house-made. Beans are most likely Bush’s with bacon added. As an avid pitmaster judge, this didn’t make the cut. Real Deal Breaker for me.

Legitimately the worst bbq I have had in my life. The pictures looked bad, but I’m from Kansas, love bbq and was desperate for decent food in the area. Ordered brisket and ribs. Took one bite of the brisket sandwich and almost threw up. It was chewy as hell, no smoke rings and smelled like Chinese food. I gave it to my dog and she wouldn’t even eat it. Tried a rib, gross… threw it away with the rest of the brisket.
I don’t know if it’s bc there is no bbq place around but it’s crazy people even serve this food.
If you like BBQ, DO NOT EAT HERE.
The owner just responded saying I should’ve asked for a refund…
Well dingus, I ordered it to go and I’m not driving back for a refund just to awkwardly tell the pit master how bad he is at his job.
He also said that bbq may taste different than Kansas BBQ. Well, that may be true, but I’ve been to about 25 states and have had bbq in most of them and have never literally thrown away an entire mean bc it tasted so bad.
Even if I did ask for a refund, I would still leave this review so people don’t put that garbage in their body.

I had a large group working in Challis for a week and we ordered lunch from all the local restaurants. I called the Real Deal ahead of time and arranged to place 20 orders, and Vivian had them ready on time and labeled just as I requested. And the brisket was the best I've ever had. The ribs were amazing too, and everything was really well priced, especially for barbecue.

Best smoked meat I've ever had! I had the amazing tri-tip, my husband loved the brisket, and both our kids devoured the ribs. The cole-slaw and baked beans were exceptional and even the bread roll was delicious. These guys have it down! The waitstaff was super welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was lively and fun. Clearly a place the locals like to eat at, and for good reason. Don't miss this place if you're passing through.
