Rokko’s Teriyaki & BBQ: A Masterclass in Mediocrity

Rokko’s Teriyaki & BBQ sits on the main strip, raking in tourist dollars like a slot machine that only pays out in disappointment. It’s the kind of place that exists not because it’s good, but because it’s there.

Let’s start with the beef teriyaki fried rice, a dish that somehow managed to be both dry and flavorless—like eating the memory of something that was once edible. The beef? A jaw workout. Chewy, tough, and drier than a bad stand-up routine. And sauce? What sauce? Blink, and you’d miss the mere suggestion of it.

Then there was the pork shank yakisoba, a dish so aggressively average it could’ve been cooked by an algorithm. No bold flavors, no depth, nothing to justify the price tag. You could throw a dart at a map, find the nearest hole-in-the-wall teriyaki joint, and get the same thing for half the price.

Speaking of price—$16 for a standard meal? Over $8 for a kid’s meal? That’s not a price tag; it’s a shakedown. Rokko’s doesn’t charge for quality—they charge for geography. They know they’re on the main strip in a resort town, and they price their mediocrity accordingly.

If you’re starving, sure, it’s food. But so is a gas station sandwich. If you have any self-respect (or taste buds), keep walking.

Food, like life, is an adventure—sometimes a thrilling ride, sometimes a slow-moving disaster. This one? More of a tragic misstep, like a tourist ordering fugu from a guy with a twitchy eye. But hey, we eat, we learn, we survive—mostly. Until next time, may your meals be memorable for the right reasons. Join me at Northwest Chef Food Reviews on Facebook for better food discoveries.

Called for 30 minutes with no answer so I drove down and walked in. They said they were closed due to being slow to which I replied it would have been nice if you had and your phone. She then said sorry I was busy trying to close.

We tried this place and were so impressed with the food. We ordered takeout and they were so nice to give us recommendations and definitely looking forward to trying it again. Their tacos are amazing on Tuesdays!

I have followed these guys from Cheney to CDA. Their teriyaki recipe passed down from generation to generation keeps me coming back! The Yakisoba is my favorite and the atmosphere is unique.

Super casual but delicious Teriyaki. I had the shrimp teriyaki with Wasabi Mac and cheese and a side salad. The owner took my order and was very friendly. You order at the bar and pay at the bar, then they bring your food in a styrofoam container. Super easy!!

Their beef was overcooked, super chewy and inedible. We had a big order so they were a bit behind - that’s fine. However, the guy who was packaging all the food, literally put one piece of meeat and veggie at a time into the to-go container so slowly!! Also all their meats and veggies are in like subway style containers in the front - so the food is NOT straight off the oven or made per order!

Went to Rokkos for the first time in years on my way through CDA - it was just as delicious as I remember when they had their location in Cheney. All the sauces are homemade along with the mac salad and the service is super friendly and quick! 10/10 will be back!!

Good food, finally found flavor in a town we were convinced had none. We enjoyed our meal a lot! We recommend putting the poppyseed dressing that they give you on the side on your shank for an extra zing.

The wasabi macaroni salad is good but needed a bit of salt, since they didn’t have any we added the soy sauce that was provided and it gave it the extra flavor to really make it shine. We really enjoyed it!

Overall give Rokkos a go one of the best eats of the week.

The salad is sad tho.
