Good Brisket, but pricey!

Phil Plourde

We tried Rib Shack in Eagle recently, and unfortunately, it was a pretty disappointing experience overall.

I ordered the two-meat combo ($33). I initially wanted burnt ends, but after ordering, we were told they were out—so I swapped for brisket. The sides were loaded potatoes and cheesy rice.

Cheesy rice was just okay, but it had that unmistakable refrigerated or frozen-then-reheated taste. Not inedible, just not fresh.

Loaded potatoes were fine and honestly the best part of my plate.

Brisket was mediocre—dry-ish, unremarkable, and definitely nothing memorable.

Pulled pork was the real miss. It had a strange, off flavor that made it borderline unpleasant. I didn’t finish it.

My (adult) kid ordered jalapeño cheddar sausage and brisket, and the sausage was rough—easily one of the worst jalapeño sausages either of us has had. Little heat, odd texture, and just not good.

Service was also awkward. There was only one employee working when we arrived, and while it wasn’t busy at first, more customers trickled in. From ordering to food delivery, the wait felt long and disorganized, adding to the overall weirdness of the experience.

The frustrating part?
The place looks great, has solid décor, and smells like good barbecue when you walk in—but the food simply doesn’t live up to that promise.

Oddly enough, when we paid, they didn’t charge us for our drinks (sweet tea and Dr. Pepper). Not a complaint, just another strange detail in an already inconsistent visit.

Final Take

Good vibes, bad barbecue.

For the price point—especially $33 for a combo—this just doesn’t cut it. Boise already struggles with truly great BBQ, and unfortunately, this didn’t help the case.

Rib Shack saved our Thanksgiving!! Due to a change in plans we decided to order out for Thanksgiving but unfortunately, it was the day of when we decided. We called around to a bunch of places, all of which were either closed or weren't accepting orders. The lovely family owners of Rib Shack initially told us the same as they were putting together their pre-orders already and we're closed for their family get together. Shortly after, they called us back and offered to help us with a meal. They put together a spread of meats, sides, cornbread, and even a delicious dessert very quickly and have us a phenomenal price as the icing on the cake. They were kind, generous, and the food was excellent! We will definitely be back for more! Thank you for your kindness and willingness to help our family have a terrific last minute meal!!

TLDR: long wait times, cold food, bad experience all around
I don’t leave bad reviews 🫣
I had only heard good things about this place and we’ve been wanting to try it, so we went tonight 12/6 around 5pm. I’ll start with maybe they were under staffed. It was only 3 of us: me, my husband, and 3 year old. We walked in and waited about 20 minutes before being seated even though at the time there were only 3 other families in the restaurant. By the time we were sat there were a few other families behind us in line waiting to be sat.
Then they sat us at a dirty table and it takes about 10 minutes for them to come clean it. Another 15 to take our drink orders, which was weird because 15 minutes after that a different waiter brings us empty cups and leaves them at our table, while other families are being brought drinks directly (a few of them had entered after us). No big deal, we fill our own drinks.
So we’ve been there about an hour, we probably should have left because one of the families that was sitting there when we arrived still hadn’t received their food.
They take our order and then we wait another 30-40 minutes to get our food. We ordered bbq nachos, and a 2 meat combo with tri tip and burnt ends, macaroni and a salad as our sides. The nachos were not even a little warm, and the cheese was all clumped from cooling down and the chips were soggy. The meat was tough and also cold, some of the tri tip was good. Macaroni also cold, and our waiter did not come back until he dropped off the bill.
We were here for over two hours for the worst bbq I’ve had in the valley, hopefully it was just an off night but it was not a good experience and you could tell the families around us were not happy as well. I am okay with bad service and waiting forever as long as the food is good enough to make up for it, but the food was below average at best.
There was a woman employee that was very nice when we walked in and apologized for the wait, but besides that it was a bad experience all around.

I went there for lunch with my 7-year old boy yesterday 12/1/25. The girl that worked the front had long black hair, glasses, and tattoo sleeves. She was rude and didn’t smile. We waited 25 minutes for our 2 burgers, and one of the burgers and the bacon on it were nearly completely black being so overcooked. We ate it anyway. The food and style of the place is really good, minus the overcooked burger on this occasion.
I stood at the entrance/exit from where employees walk out from the back for several minutes, making eye contact as the girl with the tattoos walked by me several times without addressing me. I had to ask her as she walked by please for a to-go box. I told her it “seems you guys have had a rough go today”, and she rudely says “it’s nothing we can’t handle”.
I don’t think they were handling the restaurant very well. I had a poor experience. I’d I owned/ran that restaurant, I would not be happy with the rude employee especially. I tipped her anyway, but left feeling wronged.

BREAKFAST. You want a good one? Better get on over to Rib Shack in Eagle. It's hard when you've got a hankering for a delicious breakfast, but all the known spots are full with a wait. I hesitate to even post this, but honey--its too good not to share. This hidden gem in old Eagle might be known for their BBQ, but their breakfast is to die for. They open every day at 8am, and brunch is served until 2pm on the weekends. We had the Perfect Plate and the Steakhouse Burrito, but because we were having a hard time settling on these two, we also tried the chicken tenders and a side of gravy. HOLY COW. We are super picky about our breakfast burritos, and these knocked it out of the park. The breakfast potatoes are delicious, and the let me just say....all the hype about Canes moving into town...the house breaded tenders at Rib Shack are good enough to go viral. I've not had a better one, anywhere. I'm sad I didn't have more room for a full order of biscuits and gravy, but there will definitely be a next time. Support your local business owners--eat here! If you're going out for Small Business Saturday, give this one a try for your shopping sustenance. Also--the owners are gems. They go out of their way to take care of their customers. We were also told that after Thanksgiving, they go full service (they've been a walk up counter).

Food is great ! Service is not good. They did not give us two items of our order then when I mentioned it to them they gave me one and never did get the other. We ate and then left. I was telling my wife , the employees create a cluster. They need better training !!

The server that helped us with our order was very helpful in decision making of the menu items and options. The rib ends were amazing. He gave us one to sample before we made our choice. The warm baked potato bake was amazing too.

My cousin that lives in Eagle, ID recommended the Rib Shack Barbecue restaurant for an amazing BBQ Dinner!
They did not disappoint. Great customer service! They were very, very friendly and it was a great family dining experience.
The ribs were some of the thickest ever. The brisket was tender and very flavorful.
We had the smashed potatoes and cole slaw as sides. Both were as delicious as they look.
You won’t be disappointed coming here.

Been here twice for breakfast and not impressed. My hostess/server appeared unhappy to be at work. No common thank you or you’re welcome when I thanked her. Never offered a drink refill.
The breakfast burrito’s taste was OK, but small for $16. The best part of the burrito was the green salsa on the side. I would probably go back if this was an $8 burrito. And get it to-go…..
