I ordered the risotto. Not sure is it was over cooked and/or overdressed. It was a big gummy mess. My husband ordered a steak. Very expensive. By the end of the meal he had a large pile of fat on his plate. I've never been to a “steakhouse” and had such a poor steak! Very slow service which wasn't really an issue, however, it would have been nice if our server checked on us. We will not be eating at this establishment again. We were very disappointed.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and wonderful service. A little surprised there wasn't a dress code. Not that I care, but it was strange sitting in such a fine dining like environment next to people dressed in hoodies and beanies. May have thrown off the ambience a little bit. Definitely expensive, but the portions were large and overall experience made it worth it. Lots of nice touches like getting to pick your own steak knife, palette cleaners between courses, smoked salmon with the bread, etc. Will definitely return for special occasions.
Overall, we left disappointed — we really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, both the food and service fell short of expectations. The lemon-zesty palate cleanser was disliked by 4 out of 5 of us, the mashed potatoes were overly salty, and the tenderloin wasn't as good as what we've had at other less expensive steakhouses. On a positive note, the cocktails and the surf and turf dishes were acceptable and the ambience was very nice.
This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants! Matthew has been our waiter the last couple times and he is awesome. The drinks, appetizers, main dishes and desserts are all incredible. We are never disappointed by the quality of food and even the chef sends out little bite starters and sorbet to cleanse our palette in between courses that is perfect. We look forward to coming here everytime and is a favorite restaurant of ours in all of Idaho, if not nationwide. The combinations of ingredients, freshness and quality of the meat is superb... And it's family friendly with kids menu options to choose from. They have a great selection of wines or we have brought our own for a minimal cork fee. We truly love this hidden gem in mccall - just make reservations ahead of time so you can secure a table, it's well worth it!!
Our experience here for the first time was really special! We brought the family here for the week of Christmas. The steak was fantastic and prepared perfectly! Getting to choose your steak knife was a lot of fun! Our server was really attentive and brought everything out at the perfect pace to allow us to try an assortment of everything on the menu. The oysters were super fresh and delicious! The cocktails were great too.
I have not been impressed with the new chef. Over the last three visits, the service has been excellent, but the food has not met the standard this restaurant has previously set. This has always been my favorite restaurant, so I'm genuinely disappointed to see the food quality decline.
Excellent steaks. Cooked perfectly. Service was excellent. A little bit on the pricey side, but overall worth it.
What a shame. I used to work at this historical landmark and gem of Idaho, and it so mismanaged had been for some time. We arrived at 7pm and dining room wasn't even half full and nobody had food in front of them.
Server handed us the menu and didn't care to tell us about all the 86'ed items. After we made our selections we were told they were out of nearly all the things we wanted. Staff is amateur hour considering the price tag.
Since they were out of most of our menu selections, we ended up paying for our wine and getting a steak at Lardo's across the street.
Don't get your hopes up on this one. View is beautiful; service and overall management is deplorable.

Horrible experience. We went there for our 10 year anniversary dinner and they were out of everything. First we ordered French onion soup, they were out of it. Then we ordered NY strip steaks, they were out of those. Then we ordered ribeyes, guess what, they were out. Our waiter finally told us they were out of a lot of things on the menu. After that we asked for our bill, paid for our two glasses of wine, and left. To set the stage, this was a Friday night at 7pm and the dining room was only half full. Pretty restaurant, but for what they are charging it is run very poorly.
Everything was fantastic: atmosphere, food (stuffed mushrooms and SRF American Wagyu flat iron steak), wine, service and ambience. The chefs at this property are excellent and this definitely showed during this experience!

I am a food snob and the dish I got was seriously the best meal I’ve had all year! We went here with low expectations as some of the food in McCall is “meh” but we were so blown away by our dinner!!! We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary (17 together!) and our server Matthew was really great! He made the night really special!
The sorbet brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of the sorbet I used to eat at this little pizza place in France as a little girl! So yummy!
We were staying at the lodge and when we called the hostess to get a table she said we couldn’t get in… We wanted to eat there at like 5pm…. She said we wouldn’t be able to get a table until 830pm…We decided to walk in anyways and they ended up being able to get us in. There was a point where there were open tables! …So that part was a little lame but I won’t remove stats for it because I feel she just needs more training on phone etiquette and how restaurants are ran.. she was nice enough just was a little annoying that they weren’t going to get us in… but other than that the views were amazing, chairs comfy, service excellent, food excellent! Really impressed!!!!

Such a delight! An extensive wine list for every palette, expert service and excellent dishes!
Love the view of the lake from our table, the servicer was warm and professional. Food: Outstanding!!!
I reserved a table weeks in advance for my wife's birthday and requested a table by the window in reservation request. We were up staying at the cabin for the weekend and looking forward to a romantic dinner by the lake. When we were seated in the middle of the restaurant, I informed the manager that we were supposed to have a window seat. The manager said unfortunately he made the decision to give up our table for a marketing team in which they were paying for their 3 day stay and dinner for them to write a good review. This was the absolute worst experience of customer service we have had and felt so low that our reservation paid dinner was not valued and we were not as important to the management team at The Narrow Steak House and the manager of the Shore Lodge John Wood. Low blow, so maybe this review will help with your marketing, add this review it's not paid for! We left immediately and had dinner at Rupert's where we were value and taken care of. Management at the Narrows Steak House and Shore Lodge should be fired, and would be if I was the owner.

View and location is spectacular. Arriving, host had multiple piercings which seemed very unprofessional for such a high priced restaurant. Food was very overpriced as steak wasnt seared properly for a $57 tenderloin. A steak at Outback is better prepared but was an excellent cut. I added scallops which were way too salty and were $26 for 2. Not to complain too much but the ambiance was worth it but the food was not. Go to the bar for the same view and half the price.
