This is a great little Cafe. The food is very good & the prices are even better with the amount of food you get! Even when it's slammed & there's a wait the staff is very friendly & prompt with service. We will definitely be coming back. 😊

30 minutes went by after placing our order. I soon realized others after us were being served their meals. I then asked our waitress on the status of our order. She came back a minute later and said they are working on it. Should be ready in a few minutes. 10 minutes later we finally received our meal. The food was good but it was literally hot of the grill. Which tells me the order was never placed or they forgot. We would have respected an honest answer at first instead of BSing us. Also our beverages were never refilled during our time there. This was our first time eating there and our last.

I've been to culinary school I know good cooking but if you're looking for down home this place has been an icon in North Idaho since I don't remember the hoot owl cafe has some of the best food ever cooked in the world breakfast is second to none these folks family owned and operated for years and love so much that when it was sold they kept the exact menu and made sure the food was was kept to its high standards if you're cruising through ponderay Idaho and you don't stop at the hoot out you might miss one of the best meals you've ever eaten they're only open till 2:00 in the afternoon but if you can make it it will be an experience that you or you and your family will remember I'm always want to come back to very down home atmosphere with great service great food and good times my family and I have many memories of having breakfast or lunch at this little cafe do yourself a favor stop by the chicken fried steak is my favorite their biscuits and gravy are things that dreams are made of lol

I was here 31 years ago travelling home to Canada from Disneyland as a 10 year old boy with my family. The food was so good I remember it to this day. One day I will return to the hoot.
Edit: Lowered from 5 stars to 1. I returned after ~35 years and our 20-something male bus boy only wanted to talk about trump and conservative politics… to a Canadian. I just want to order and eat food. Not talk about politics regardless of political spectrum.
Edit 2: Changed review to specify it was a bus boy, not our server since the owner is likely correct as we did have a woman serve us.
