It's hot. 94, 95 degree s. It's dollar movie night at the Paramount. Indiana Jones, The Raiders of The Lost Ark. The movie doesn't begin for another couple of hours. I'm really not hungry but I need somewhere to be until the movie begins. A lot of places are closed on Monday but not La Quinta de los Reyes on New York Street. My husband and I used to eat here sometimes back in the early 80's when we were dating. Come to think of it, he took me to see Raiders of The Lost Ark and Star War's. Back then, La Quinta de los Reyes main entrance was on Broadway. WOW! Just look what they've done to this place! I walk by here a lot and this place is always alive with people, music, food. Always, from walking on the outside, it conjures up thoughts of what is right in the world in people's lives. Inside are several women at the bar enjoying their selves. Seeing them made me feel I need to sit with them and absorb some of their energy. They somewhat invite me to be involved with them as they take pictures. I decline but still enjoy their company as I listen in. Tonight, I'm kind of full. I'm just hot, on foot. Do I want a beer? Anything to drink? I opt for a on tap Corona. I don't think I have ever had a Corona before. It was not bitter, which is of high priority to me when I have a beer. Which is not often. Or not often enough. One beer down and I could go for a little lite, cool bite to eat. Evan is my server at the bar. Fantastic! No attitude whatsoever. Just service, service, service. For food, It was decided on a small plate of salad with a lime wedge, a orange slice, a drizzle of french dressing. I think, also, a drizzle of ranch dressing. A side plate of saute'd shrimp, and an additional side plate of the most perfectly ripe avocado I have been served anywhere at any time. The only thing missing from this delicious, perfect, light meal was a tortilla to use to sop up the citrus juice and the dressing from the salad. Just, splendid! Now, on to my dollar movie at the Paramount.

I asked for a quiet booth but was seated in the patio next to the bar and very loud music videos. Margaritas were nothing special and my three little flautas for $23 were dry and tasteless. Even the beans and rice were mediocre at best.
Ate here before going to the Paramount. Very convenient to park and walk to/from the theater. Food quality was very good, but a little pricey.
Not a typical street fare Mexican restaurant. Quantities are large. Flavors are unique (when I have a doggy bag, I always get extra rice! It is excellent). Mole is very good. Perfect for before or after shows.
We had out of town guests and dined before the Paramount performance. The restaurant was recommended by our neighbor. There were 5 in our group. We were all very disappointed in our food and the service. Food was not flavorful. Portions were large. We could not get a server for 10 minutes and it was not busy. We will not return there. I'm sad to say this as I want the downtown to flourish.
The food was fine. However, we didn't enjoy the experience because we ended up fighting flies in the dining room. We ended up packing up our food to go after a few bites.
Great food and drinks, fun place, our only issue was the side room we were in was very warm, there was a ceiling fan on but barely moving. We know it's been a very hot summer, and we managed the warmth. Otherwise, it's a a great place to eat!
The food was absolutely delicious! Very authentic and our waitress was so kind! We will definitely be back
The food was good but service bad. Seated immediately. But once seated no one came to the table . After 15 mins we got up to leave the hostess came up to us and asked if we had been waited on we said no that’s why we are leaving she said she would get someone yet we still were not waited on right away -
Well, we should have left because from being seated at the table, to food being brought to table, took 43mins total.
We did not order anything special that takes a long time to prepare
How do I know ?
Because they seated us by a big clock on the wall outside and when we first walked in we were talking about the time and what we would be doing once we left.
Inefficient service food ok but not worth that kind of wait at a table not even getting drinks or anything for that long is not a place I would return again

Don’t let the exterior fool you—this place is full of surprises. From the outside, it may look a bit run-down, but step inside and you’re greeted by a surprisingly warm and inviting atmosphere. There’s a mix of open-air and indoor seating, giving it a relaxed, casual charm.
Now, let’s talk food—authentic doesn’t even begin to cover it. Every dish is made fresh and by hand, and the real star of the show is the open kitchen right in the middle of the bar. Watching the chef work just feet away adds a whole new dimension to the dining experience.
That said, quality like this comes at a price. The menu is on the pricier side for this type of cuisine, but when you factor in the freshness, craftsmanship, and overall experience, it’s clear you’re paying for more than just a meal—you’re paying for something memorable
We had reservations at 7 pm and we sat down immediately and that's where it went down hill. The food was amazing but our server never wrote anything down, we were missing food, and then she rolled her eyes when asked for refills. If I could rate a zero for service I would.
We've been here multiple times and always had amazing times so definitely give it a try just be patient with the service.
Decent enchiladas
We hadn't been at this authentic Mexican restaurant in several years and it has gotten even better. They have a large well-covered and protected outdoor seating area. They had music with a volume appropriate live singer who sounded real good. The food was delicious with one of us having an enchiladas plate and one having a grilled chicken bowl with peppers and onions. They made fresh guacamole and salsa at our table which was incredible. Also great and attentive waitress.
They did not validate my reservation with open table. Waited 40 minutes for a table to open up. Didn't even get offered water after sitting for 15 minutes. Food was lack luster. There was no consistent entertainment. They had a live singer downstairs, a radio and mariachi upstairs. They all overlapped and it was awful
