I saw this place while walking around campus and decided to come because my brother had never tried duck before. You order at a kiosk and then wait for your food. The staff was really friendly and happy to answer all our questions. I got the rice porridge soup with shrimp and it was 10/10. The duck was also amazing, they chop it up right in front of you so you can watch and it was so flavorful and chewy. The cucumber salad was fresh and spicy to help balance the richness of the duck. My brother got chicken wings which were simple but still good for anyone who is not into duck. Seating is limited, about 20 spots inside but I would definitely come back.

I had the char siu and siu yuk combo rice. The char siu was too lean for me and I wasn't amazed by the marinade, but it was enjoyable. The siu yuk flavor was excellent and the crispy skin was on point. I'm so glad we have more Cantonese food options in Champaign.

Soo good. Im Very pleased that I have found roasted duck in the area. I miss the Chinese restaurants in Chicago. But now I've found a place that has the same great flavors. I had the pick 3 and the duck and pork belly were my favorite. The wings were dry and lacked Flavor. But the meal in itself was right on time. Ill be back...
Reminds me of home. Good portions.

This place was pretty bad, the duck wings were not at all for an American palette.
The peking duck was not tender, so little meat, and the flavors were kind of all a mess.
It had a lot of potential but this place was a red flag the moment it was described as “fast food”.

I lived in Hong Kong for four years and I'm happy to see that we finally get an authentic HK BBQ spot in town. The meats (roasted pork/duck/chicken) are impressively true to the flavors you'd find in HK, making this place a rare gem. I like the roasted pork and duck the most. The meats are more expensive than those in Chicago, but I don't think there is any competitor in town, so they do have a good reason for the premium.
The vegetable tastes just normal (not as fantastic as some other places in town) but the price is very nice. For the milk tea, it was a bit underwhelming; the balance of milk, tea, and sugar felt off, so it didn’t quite capture the smooth, rich taste typical of HK milk tea. Despite this, I’ll definitely be back. The authentic flavors of the roasted meats and the fact that there's no real competition in town make it a worthwhile visit for anyone craving genuine HK BBQ.

Duck was extremely greasy. I got sick after eating from here. I do not recommend unless you want food poisoning.

Got the rice combo. The beef stew and roast duck was very flavorful. The duck was a little bony however. The fat and sauce also renders into the rice which also made the rice extremely flavorful. The tea egg was lacking flavor tho.
Overall, very delicious meal and very filling. Highly recommend.

Was really happy to find Cantonese BBQ while dropping off my son at UIUC. It was their soft launch but my food came out quickly. We had the duck, char siu, and chicken. I live in LA and visit Hong Kong regularly. The taste of their meats is on point compared to other Hong Kong style bbq places. I paired my meal with a vitasoy lemon tea (so nostalgic).
They do need to improve on meat quantity and cutting. I agree with some of the other comments. I thought the portion of roast duck was mostly bones. Also, the chef didn't cut their char siu correctly. It was too thin and not the traditional thickness. If they correct these, Royal BBQ will be pretty close to any big city cantones bbq joint.
Good potential. Will eat here again.

We walked in eager to try something new. But lord were we wrong, this place is borderline inedible, disgusting, rancid, filthy, and any adjective that reflects upmost disappointment and disgust. Do. Not. Eat. Here. Eat at Thai fusion.
Nice food
