It’s a diner but on Sunday morning they are too busy for the staffing level evidently. Even if kitchen is backed you would think the food should be coming out as soon as done - everything was cold. Not even warm. Never got toast; had to go find my own creamers and then had to go get catsup.

Every time I have come to Sweet Basil, the service has been great and the food is exactly what I want: a giant portion of “Americana” food for a decent price. The breakfast is AMAZING, and the atmosphere is nice for a place like Champaign that has a lot of fast food.

Great breakfast with large portions. Could have easily shared a meal with my sister. Had Avacado-Bacon omelet minus sour cream. It was very tasty. Pancakes were a little dry. Fruit was fresh and very good.

This place has some serious issues. Overcharging to an obnoxious level for gluten free that was stale, old, and cold. GF stale pancake crumbled and was cold like out of a refrigerator for a week. Turkey sausage hockey pucks. Eggs like they were in the refrigerator! Stale old potatoes. Literally NO seasoning including salt. A glass of "fresh squeezed" OJ will put you back $6. Terrible even when my standard were super low going inWe unfortunately won't be back. I have literally no idea how people rated this place better than a 1 star. The manager tried at least to apologize for the fiasco. But how can you apologize for terrible food and hand you a bill at the same time? $21 for an omelet???

The food and service are hit or miss. I've had a couple not so great experiences there, but overall, I really love it.

The chicken and waffles are DELICIOUS!

They genuinely give the largest serving sizes of breakfast food of any place we’ve ever been to. So much food! I rarely even finish my meal there and I’m always finishing my meal and the peoples meals around me. Good service, cool vibes inside, and their menu is HUGE. They have tons of options for everyone. Highly recommend.

I had high hopes for Sweet Basil Cafe, but unfortunately, our recent visit left much to be desired. We encountered several issues that made our experience less than enjoyable.

Gluten-Free Options:
One of the major disappointments was the lack of gluten-free options that we had seen on the menu prior to coming. The waitress had to come back three separate times to inform us that they were out of gluten-free buns, cauliflower crust, and just about anything my wife could eat. She eventually had to order off the breakfast menu just to have something to eat for dinner, which was frustrating and disappointing for her.

Drink Issues:
First, I ordered sweet tea and told they were out. So, I switch to Diet Pepsi, like my son ordered. After offering to refill our drinks, the waitress returned to tell us that the machine had run out of Diet Pepsi, and there would be a delay. Moments later, she came back to say they were completely out of Diet Pepsi altogether and asked if we wanted something else. For a place of this size, running out of such a staple beverage was a reflection of poor management.

Food Quality:
When our food finally arrived, things didn’t improve much. My son’s Western Burger was drowned in BBQ sauce, making it impossible to taste the meat. My Mushroom and Swiss burger, while not covered in sauce, revealed a different issue—the meat was bland and clearly of low quality. The only item that had any real flavor were the fries. For the $85 we spent, we expected much better quality.

Overall, this experience was disappointing from start to finish. Between the lack of gluten-free options, running out of basic beverages, and the subpar food quality, I can confidently say we will not be returning. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Friday night. Hmm. Appears as though my assessment is a common one.

Great food, interesting options. Mostly simple food and drinks with a twist. Arnold Palmer with different fruit twists. Burger with guac, fried jalapeno, and fried shell.
