Management needs to deeply consider turning off delivery service/pickup orders on a busy holiday night.
Like many others, going out for a Valentines Day dinner is expected to be busy. In the restaurant was about a dozen other couples extremely upset and not served even water or appetizers for about 42 minutes. After 1hr 15min, enough was enough and people began leaving.
What happened? The phones were constantly going off for pickup order requests and the workers kept calling out names for DoorDash/Uber drivers picking up. As if the entire seated restaurant was ignored.
People actually began looking around at each other and other tables chatting with other couples to express how much of a joke this was. EVERY single table waited well over an hour just for appetizers or water refills and evert table wasn’t even full…
Management needs to keep this in mind: you have done-in seating customers, who are TIPPING visitors to your establishment. They need to have priority over delivery service. Bags and bags of food were handed out for orders being picked up and not a single, seated, tipping guest was served. Totally ignored.
So. People left. My advice… turn off for the night your grubhub, uber, DoorDash ordering system. Service the guests that are seated in person in your establishment.
Also, absolutely consider hiring more staff. 2 waitresses in the entire place and that is consistent with what I’ve seen the last 5 years visiting about 15 times. You can see the stress on their face.
It’s an absolute shame the place sucks every penny they can out and disregard the customer experience. Unfortunately, this will be my last time visiting Ichiban.

I dont know. We try them out once a year and we always have the same experience. It is probably ok for some, but I crave good sushi from Hawaii. The one from this place is overcomplex with chunky bits, more than three bites for each piece, many sauces... I don't like presentation of cold roll right up to a hot tempura roll. I am sashimi girl, but I can appreciate good crafty roll as well. They are not bad. I think they just cater to the neighborhood taste.

The food wasn't very good. A woman at Sunday 6:00 PM was telling me and my family that she wanted a tip, even though the service was terrible. We refused, and she started shouting at us in a language we didn't understand because we didn't give her a tip.

Very nice surprise while traveling to Chicago. Good sushi and a good price. The sushi chefs are good but they dont talk much 😉. If you're looking for a quick bite or a nice dinner... Ichiban is a nice option. Give them a try. You'll like it. I guarantee it.

5 big booms from me to Ichiban. Randomly found this place today and loved it. Food was priced well, service was great, and the food was the best part. Only issue I found was the seating (only if someone is sitting behind you) is that you’d get pushed but that’s not worth docking points for. Will be back
