CAKE PERFECTION‼️ Black Forest cake. I ordered and had THE BEST cake EVER for my 70th Birthday from The Deerfield Bakery, the Deerfield location!! It looked GORGEOUS and tasted BEYOND DELICIOUS‼️ GREAT price too!

Did the bakery change ownership? I thought it would be nice to bring a spread of those mini pastries to a family dinner and as we started eating them, we realized they had gone bad. I bit into a mini eclair and the filling tasted sour. It was sickening. I am shocked the staff allowed me to buy these knowing they were bad.

I had a few basic questions about the product, but the staff member I spoke with, Hailey seemed visibly uninterested and dismissive. Her passive-aggressive tone made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
What really upset me was seeing her interact with another customer shortly after. They asked questions as I did, but her whole attitude shifted. She was very accommodating to the other person. The difference was hard to ignore.
What was even more disgusting was the mouse I saw scurry behind the place where they store donuts. I immediately left. Amazing first impression.

Worst customer service ever . The manager would not let me speak to an owner after being very upset with a birthday cake I ordered . Was told owners do not speak to customers . Deerfield bakery is known for their cakes . Please let me tell
You the cake did not look anything like the pic i provided . Spoke to 2 managers and was told this is what you ordered . All the blame was put on me , on how i ordered it . I gave them a pick - outcome was nothing like the pic . Managers did not even try to help me . My daughter was disappointed on her 21st birthday . Cannot even tell you how bad their customer service was .

I researched this bakery online and saw great reviews so I decided to give it a try. My significant other and I flew into Chicago to celebrate our birthdays, I placed a telephone order for a heart cake with a simple top and bottom border in Dallas Cowboys colors. I placed the order on 7/25 for pick up on 7/30. The order was smooth and pick up was a breeze. I was greeted right away upon entering the bakery and provided with my cake which I had already paid for. The cake was pretty, the colors matched exactly what I wanted. The issue started when we cut the cake. We both thought something was different about the cake because there was spots throughout the blue icing but we thought it was because the cake was cooling. I'm not sure what was used to make the color blue but whatever was used I don't believe it was supposed to be used. The blue dye used in the cake stained everything....we washed our hands at least 20 times and even used chlorine and they dye was still on our hands....the dye even turned our poop blue....I have never in my life eaten a cake where this has happened. Needless to say we did not continue to eat the cake and I was very disappointed and frustrated. We attempted to speak with the manager at the bakery but never received a call back. Can't say that we would recommend or try them again when we return.
So I received a response from the bakery and it's a very classic response....so because of the color I chose it created the issue.....sounds like y'all need a little more training/education on how to make colors with buttercream. Like I stated before we have never had that issue before with any other bakery regardless of the color that is chosen (purple, red, black, green) I've had them all in buttercream with no issues.

But after a recent visit to Deerfields (a place I frequent), I felt compelled to share my experience, thanks to a interaction with a staff member named Matthew. I’m not sure if he’s the assistant manager or the store manager, but either way, he deserves recognition.
These days, it’s rare to come across truly exceptional service, which is why speaking with Matthew felt like a breath of fresh air. He helped me more than he probably realizes, and I genuinely hope this message reaches him. The day hadn’t been going my way, but that all shifted the moment I started chatting with Matt.
He was friendly, knowledgeable, and not at all shy about recommending some of his favorite items—which I really appreciated. Despite clearly having a lot on his plate, he took the time to assist me without ever making me feel rushed. I was especially impressed with how smoothly he juggled helping customers, supporting his team, and still managing to crack a few jokes along the way. His humor, patience, and authentic nature were exactly what I needed that day.
Matthew is a true asset to Deerfields. People like him are hard to come by, and the bakery is lucky to have him. Thank you, Matt!
