Ellwood Steak and Fish House

Called about a reservation a week before we visited. Wasnt sure exactly what time we would get there. Whoever answered the phone was very helpful and ensured me that it would not be an issue. Accommodated our party of 10 after graduation(5/17/26). Had a private room. Server was very attentive and patient! Very glad we found this restaurant!

Our server, Michael, was very good and very personable. This was our first time here, the food was excellent. We highly recommend it. Be aware it is a little pricey, but we thought it was worth it.

Usually not the case in the past….but waited over 2 hours for burgers and a salad! Reservations were made for 5 p.m, dinner served (simple burgers and a salad) after 7 p.m.!!

The atmosphere was nice and the bar staff was pleasant. Our waitress seemed like she did not want to be there. I ordered the grilled calamari appetizer with an allergy request and when she brought it, she aggressively set it down and told me not to eat it. She said that the kitchen was not following protocols and it was not safe to eat and then walked away. She never offered to replace it or take it off of the bill. No one had any silverware. When we asked for silverware, the waitress said: I’ll try and walked away for another 10 minutes when we had cooling apps.

I ordered the prime rib and a baked potato. The prime rib that I’d ordered medium rare for $45.00 was med well with no seasoning and dry. My baked potato was microwaved and not baked with no salt or foil. There was not even parsley or garnish on anything. It seemed like the kitchen staff had never cooked in a fine dining establishment a day in their lives and had microwaved everything or left the food under heat lamps. The waitress apologized for the bad food and kitchen staff multiple times instead of offering to fix any issues. I would not recommend this restaurant for any large groups. It looked as though the bar patrons were enjoying themselves and the burgers looked good. All 9 of us were completely underwhelmed and shocked at how unprofessional it was for the prices and reviews.

We visited for a celebration after hearing this was considered one of the best restaurants in DeKalb. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing, largely due to the service. The waitress came across as impatient throughout both ordering and table service. At one point, when a dish was delivered to the wrong person in our group, she raised her voice and sharply said, “Yours is xxx,” which felt unnecessarily harsh and negatively affected the atmosphere of the evening.

In terms of the food, the raw oysters lacked the freshness and natural sweetness we expected from a restaurant recognised for its “best seafood” reputation. The seafood chowder was acceptable but not particularly memorable, while the ribeye steak did not stand out considering the restaurant’s reputation. The lamb chops were served in a rather small portion and lacked the distinctive richness and depth of flavour typically associated with lamb.

Presentation was also underwhelming. The rice pilaf side dish appeared carelessly plated, resembling a simple scoop of rice placed onto the plate without much attention to presentation. The broccoli was served very plainly as well, a section cut directly from a whole head of broccoli, which made the side dishes feel somewhat unfinished. As for the Parmesan sea bass, the balance of flavours and ingredients did not come together particularly well for me. As someone who enjoys seafood, it was unfortunately not a dish that encouraged another bite.

Overall, while some dishes were acceptable, the underwhelming service and inconsistent food quality made the experience fall short of expectations for a restaurant with such a strong local reputation.

This atmosphere is wonderful and the waitstaff is good, but the food is barely mediocre. I ordered Mediterranean chicken which was described as a light lemon and oregano roasted chicken. It came doused in mustard to which I am allergic. They refused to refund the uneaten meal. The manager said she would not refund my meal which had one bite out of it. As a side note, restaurants often use mustard to cover less than fresh poultry and seafood. Beware.

Hannah was our server and she was amazing!!!
The food was tasty, specially the hamburger real quality Angus beef and great french fries! Overall not so pricey for the food and experience.

If they could step their food up from diner food to what their appearance shows they would be killing it. The food lacks flavor and is really like parkway or the junction with ambiance. Drinks were good, service was good, food was not great.

We were there on Easter Sunday. We were seated fairly quickly, but service was slow after that. The waitress was very friendly, but we were left without water several times. Steaks were overcooked and pricy. I probably won't visit this restaurant again 😕

Our sever Demonte did an amazing job. He was very welcoming and had a very good attitude. 10/10
