Went to eat today there were no tables to eat because it was so packed and the tables that were open and clean were roped off . This lady came and made everybody stop eating just to get up and sit at dirty tables. Then when we complain and say there is no where to sit and they haven’t cleaned the tables off she tells me I don’t have to eat at patterson. To pay over $1,000 for a meal plan and you can’t even sit at a clean table is ridiculous and pitiful and the food isn’t even worth the hassle.

Honestly with them being open during the weekdays from 11-8 they should just go back to closing at 2 cuz I’m here at 3 and tell me why there legit is nothing to eat. No toppings for pasta, no pizza, and nothing at the home fries place. Like at this point just close. Disappointing. And all of my food was cold.

It blows my mind that some of the workers struggle to put fries on a plate. Mids + L + ratio
Food is alright, nothing special and like other dining halls on campus. The actual hall is small and cramped - I'm always running into somebody trying to move around in there. Plus there are hardly any soft surfaces so it's very reverberant and can get loud.
Based, but looking fake af
My goddaughter attends to the school, so she invited her mom and myself to have lunch. Have a lot of options but lacking on dairy and gluten free food..more options on that would be fabulous! Overall, it is a good place.

Best Dining Hall in dekalb. Just 1 dining swipe for all you can eat.
There are a lot of food options on the daily. I like that you can take good to go too! The desserts is especially yummy.

Food was cheap and tasty and staff were very kind.
Good food but get more options ffs
I can only recommend going here if you have a student dining plan with NIU. The food is pretty sub par quality from all the lines except the main line, which has a daily menu available online, just look up 'NIU Newhall Dining'. The past 2 times I've ordered a chicken philly, it has been served to me with the meat seared on the outside and raw in the middle, with 1 of the times it still being slightly frozen. So avoid that menu item if possible as raw chicken is very dangerous and they don't teach their cooks well enough to adequately cook them. Go somewhere else if you are going to need to pay to get in anyways.
It's where I go to work as a student employee so I could be a bit partial.Usually they have three shifts: breakfast, lunch and dinner.Lunch and dinner have five stations to get food from, namely Friers, Pasta, Pizza, Traditional and Salad bar. Breakfast has just a single station where they'll give meals such as egg or bread; I haven't exactly had breakfast there. It's a good thing that they have options and that the traditional bar changes their menu each day, cause the residents would really be bored with the food there.Pre-pandic, we made sure we swept the dining area after each shift. Now that dining in isn't possible, we just make sure that all of us keep to the pandemic rules. There are glass walls separating the servers from the customers.
