Barrelman's Room has so much potential. Right now, it misses the mark. Not that it is a bad spot; it is not. But the devil is in the details. What makes something that is merely good into something truly great is found on the edges, the little things. Barrleman's isn't quite there. The venue is wonderful for a whiskey speakeasy. Small, rather dark, woody. Even the entrance door is kind of a secret. But once inside the first thing we noticed was the thumping loud "clubby" music. In a whiskey bar? Jazz, maybe. Even holiday music, as it was a couple of weeks before Christmas. But not what we heard. Also, do we have to have so many TVs in such a small place? The whiskey choices were good and varied as they should be, although some of my choices were "out of stock." The menu should not have had typos (Higland Park instead of Highland Park) and most importantly the owners should know the difference between whiskey and whisky. The one with the "e" is from Ireland or America, and the other is from Scotland. A whiskey bar should note this on the menu. The food menu is simple, and that's good, but might there be some pub mix, a cheese plate, even chocolate on the menu? These are classic food pairings for good whiskey or bourbon. Barrelman's has the right foundation but it seems those who fashioned the idea stopped with the "idea" and forgot the details, forgot to bring along the sophistication that comes with a good whiskey establishment. Sharpen the approach and this would be a wonderful spot. Right now, however, for the true whiskey lover, Barrelman's doesn't quite rise up.

It's usually pretty easy to get a table, the staff is helpful with recommendations and I love the "secret" feel of it. I recommend it to anyone who wants a night out without a long line or wait. You won't be disappointed!

This is supposed to be a cocktail bar. They don’t have large ice cubes and ran out of key agreements at 8pm on a Friday.....need to work on ordering and be ready for a Friday night.
Love the ambiance of this tucked away bar. Drinks are kinda pricey but really good. Owner needs to invest in the large bourbon ice cubes to make their drink selection legit. Definitely worth a visit!

Great concept; an unexpected cozy speakeasy serving interesting drinks and snacks. I love that this place is kind of down an alley of downtown DG. An unassuming hidden gem, almost a bit of a throwback to a mini spaghetti western saloon. However, it is attached to a big Irish (American) bar, but this can be avoided entirely by using the side entrance. The beer tap list while great does not seem to rotate frequently enough. Visits two weeks apart were insufficient to see any noticeable change. Food menu while good is rather limited to meat oriented appetizers. It would be nice to see more diverse and robust options available. Aside from those minor grievances, it's really a terrific alternative venue for those of us that wish to be comfortable in a cozy, welcoming space and I'd definitely recommend trying it out. Lastly, the ever present bar man is excellent, professional and efficient.
