I have to change my review. I have LOVED Mud and Char but the past few visits have been disappointing. The ENTIRE staff has changed and the new crew could care less about the customers. No eye contact, barely a Hello and not welcoming at all. This is completely different from the old staff. It is super disappointing. And the quality of the food has gone down as well. I believe it is more the care not the ingredients. I am so bummed. Going there was a treat to myself and now..... I don't think I'll be retuning.

I have been visiting Mud and Char for over a year now, and I really enjoy this place. It feels like a family-owned business, with a few sweet ladies running it and providing a fantastic coffee experience, which is impressive. In my opinion, their coffee is better than that of any franchise coffee shop; it’s rich, bold, and strong. I often see lots of families and local residents shopping here, and I’m one of them, supporting our local businesses.
Today, I tried their breakfast sandwiches, which were fresh, warm, and delicious. The atmosphere is perfect for bringing your laptop to start your day or for bringing your best friend to enjoy a quality cup of coffee together. I wish them continued growth and success day by day. Try them; you won’t regret it!

I just want to start by saying how wonderful the customer service was during my visit! Every employee I interacted with was kind, helpful, and clearly doing their very best to make sure we had a great experience. You can tell they truly care. However… I couldn’t help but notice how hot it was inside. Like, uncomfortably hot. It honestly broke my heart a little to see the staff working so hard in those conditions—everyone looked flushed and overheated. I don’t know how they do it day after day. This place clearly values its guests, and I really hope they’ll extend that same care to their employees by addressing the temperature issue. People deserve to work in a space that’s comfortable and safe, especially when they’re going above and beyond like this team did. I’ll be back, but I sincerely hope something is done about the heat soon. It’s just not fair to the amazing staff.

Super good iced coffee. Not bitter and has a smooth finish. I got a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and it was delicious. They don't skimp on the cream cheese! Updated 6/2 went back and the place is still awesome all these years later would recommend getting a bagel with cream cheese!

The secret menu drinks are BEYOND! Banana Bread Latte or PB&J Latte? Can't decide which I like better. Breakfast sandwiches are always fresh ingredients and made to order. The price is a little high but it's delicious and you're supporting a small local business that clearly advertises as a welcoming space. I do carry out because it is way too small inside to sit and chill. Hope one day they can move to a bigger space.
Definitely try the homemade pop tart! It was fabulous! I had a tea this time, but can’t wait to go back and try one of the delicious looking lattes. The cafe was clean and welcoming, with a decent amount of seating. The staff were very friendly! I will definitely be going back!

Nice little coffee shop that is tucked away in Downers Grove. They had a really good breakfast sandwich on a delicious bagel with eggs cooked to perfection. They also had a great Bruno bianco latte. I would come back here anytime.

I really liked it here overall. My drink was very good. I didn't eat food. I met a few friends here and it was pretty loud overall and I couldn't find a chair. I wound up just leaning against the wall at a table but just know you may not find a seat when you come here. I think they could use maybe a couple more stools. It looks like the configuration has changed some though so they could be in the middle of a switch. I got a small latte with flavor and my drink was about $8.
I got a picture from the outside but forgot to take any others. I'll probably try going back so maybe I'll get a picture then
