Avanti's is a Midwest icon and for good reason, it's dependable. Everything is always decent, not gourmet but always good. A plain iceberg lettuce salad is just as described on the menu. Truth in advertising! They're not trying to be anything but themselves. I appreciate that. The lasagna noodles were a little past soft and kind of disintegrated into the sauce. But again, it tasted really good. I ate every bit of it and I'll go again when I'm in town because...
Visited from Oklahoma! Have family in Peoria and they recommended eating here. The gondola sandwich deluxe was delicious. My mother and niece ordered the lasagna and said it was excellent as well. Not sure if our waitress was brand new or what, but waited over 30 minutes to receive our food or get any refills and when food was received, only got half of it initially.
First return visit in nearly 40 years (to the chain, not the location). Bread is a little different than I remember as a starving art student surviving on the stuff, but still good. Classic Gondola is still the best deal around.
