Mel’s California Hoagies

First time having a hoagie so I wasn't sure what to expect I had the ham and cheese definitely have to eat it right away very soggy the bottom of my bread was broken in half lots of oregano but I must say the sandwich is missing something maybe a dill sauce or even mustard I do understand it's made with oil and vinegar

My neighbor/friend told me about this spot that I didn’t knew existed. So my friend bought me a steak hoagie . I appreciate the hoagie was hot, fresh, and very filling. However, on the scale of 1-10. I will give it a 8.5. I feel like they may have put too much of the spice oregano on the meat because it’s a little overpowering. Overall, would I give this place another try. Of course, but I may just try other items on the menu. Overall the sandwich was decent and did curve the hunger. I’ve never been to the place in person, but heard it was nice. Support Black Owned!

I love the way they are all about their customers and how quick the service is. The food is amazingly delicious and recommend that everyone should most definitely go there.

Saw the viral video on Tik Tok so I just had to try it because I lovvve Haogies!! I’m so glad I visited this spot… The Margaret was my favorite and also the steak fries!! If you haven’t tried Mels California Hoagies, you better get to it! They won’t disappoint!!..

The hoagies here have always been delicious and made fresh! I have never had an issue with service or counter staff either, everyone is welcoming and friendly when you're trying to make your choices! I promise the sandwiches here will not disappoint.

Hello Oct 11 2024 $17.04 later this steak sandwich was trash…I should've know something was off when I felt the foil and it wasn’t hot…the meat was plentiful however the raw green peppers, and cold sandwich and tough bread was disappointing. Aside from that the chocolate cake was good…I guess I should have stuck with what you all specialize in the HOAGIES..not returning, I wanted to line it but it’s a NO for me

So I traveled far, like over 45 minutes plus traffic, to get lunch for my brother and I. I had just gotten off duty and my brother was on duty so a nice sandwich seemed nice. There was a big hype on social media about this place so I chose this black owned hoagie shop. Upon arrival, the owner did not greet me but greeted other familiar customers. The service took approximately 47 minutes for two sandwiches and chips which the owner tried to get smart when I asked him for mayo on my sandwich. He stated, “this is a hoagie shop we don’t have mayo”. I was so shocked cause I’ve never been to a sandwich/hoagie shop where they did not have the basic ingredients which includes mayo. I waited outside until my order was ready but when I tell you I will never return there even in my dreams. As far as the food, it was not good in my opinion. The hoagie was overly saturated in oil and tasteless. Just being honest. They even got upset and blocked me on Instagram for sharing my experience. Instead of blocking me and making the experience worse and wasting time and money, you could’ve reached out to make things right for a better rapport with new customers. So sad. Must do better. Oh and add mayo to the menu ?

Update: I must’ve hit a nerve because again you responded exactly how I knew you would lol sad black folks can’t take honest criticism. Whether this was my first or 100th review I’m expressing my experience and I’m allowed to do so. I didn’t disrespect, I just didn’t have a good experience. Do better. And p.s. mayo is offered at any hoagie/sandwich across the country. Definitely will anywhere but here lol again your response is sad and pitiful. GO SUBWAY ?!!! They treat officers way better anyway. Have a good one ?

Extremely OVERRATED! Thick soggy bread, to much oil, thinly sliced meats and tomatoes. Dry cakes with very little icing. Steak sandwich HORRIBLE… was it even steak??? Fries with mild sauce were good, frozen drinks were good. The food two thumbs downs. Truly a waste of my time driving from indiana and a waste of $60 on food.

This place was amazing definitely makes me feel like I'm right at home back in Chicago The meat is tender the hoagie is amazing they even got the mild sauce correct overall it's great The slushies you get to pick two flavors I picked strawberry and pineapple it was delicious definitely a taste of home with a great price We got two drinks a small fry and a hoagie and it came out to be $20 and some change Thank you so much and I will be back

Ordered a tray of Turkey hoagies bomb 10/10. Customer service is on point food is great. Worth the trip.

Mel’s is such a hidden gem. We’re regular customers and genuinely crave trips to this spot. Hoagies are always on point and service is fast and super friendly—always enjoy chatting with the owner while we wait for our food. Would love to see Mel’s get their own brick and mortar shop in the community!
