I have passed this restaurant for over 40 years and never went in to eat. I decided for my friend's birthday we would give it a try. The restaurant is small, and needs to be completely updated. We sat in the bar area because the dining area was so extremely loud with people talking. The bartender was also working as the waitress and came over to take out drinks orders. We both ordered a beer. They do give you a large loaf of bread and butter which is nice but our bread wasn't soft on the inside and would have been nice if it was warm. I ordered the French onion soup and the steer burger with Swiss cheese and no bun while my friend ordered the beef soup and ribs. We both got salads that came with the meal. The salad had very little to it one large crouton (which was delicious) one small piece of tomato, one slice of cucumber and very little lettuce. The French onion soup was delicious I loved it but for $8 thought it would come in a larger bowl. My meal came out wrong as the waitress brought me a small round piece of meat with juice. I was very confused. So I explained that I ordered a burger well done with Swiss cheese she thought I ordered the steak burger. Not sure how that piece of meat is considered a burger either and it cost $32 compared to my $13.99 burger. Anyway, they took the meat back and eventually I did get my burger. It was just okay and the fries were not good. No flavor to either item. My friend said his ribs were good but I wondered if he was just being polite because it was his birthday meal (he didn't eat many of them). After dinner the waitress did bring a complimentary birthday slice of cheesecake which was super nice of her. The cheesecake was a good New York style cheesecake. Overall, the place is nostalgic and I am glad I finally tried it. I'm not sure if I would go back.

Great steak. In classic atmosphere. If u decide on chicken go with the half as the chicken breast is very dry and a small portion. Soup and salad were good.

I was really surprised tonight. When I saw that Golden Steer was the highest rated steakhouse near me at a 3.8/5 here on yelp- I figured something had to be off. Maybe this place had been judged unfairly. The reality is, every single piece of food my fiancé and I touched at dinner tonight was truly disappointing. The table bread was cold and stale, the clam chowder and French onion soup we were served were clearly reheated and hadn't been made anytime recently. The salad was a complete afterthought and might as well not have been a component of the dinner. My medium rare ribeye not only came out not only so bloody that it couldn't have been on the grill for longer than two minutes, but half of the 16oz steak was fat and gristle. The peppercorn on top just didn't move the needle, and it was lacking in flavor throughout. My fiancés pork ribs were decent, and our waitress was very kind and apologetic. Without her, this is a 1/5. I'm 3 years sober, and after my Diet Coke came out with tonic water mixed in, I thought I'd been spiked- and had to go to the restroom to relieve myself before I knew for sure that I'd accidentally relapsed through another's mistake. I spent $150 tonight to experience this. Brutal Friday night. We will not be back.

Took my daughter here for her 25th birthday and service horrible. They made us feel like get out doing the entire dinner. They didn’t mention a time limit when I made reservation but kept telling us about it while eating . Waitress and owner just rude. My family will never go here again.

Food is good, service is really good with the owner on-site tending, the atmosphere is classic and nostalgic. Pricing is a bit high for what you get in my opinion, but this is a good choice for the area. Locals love this place, give it a try.Parking: It will take a minute to get a spot on the streetKid-friendliness: You could bring the kids, but nit the most friendly environment for themWheelchair accessibility: Not accessible in my opinion

Golden Steer never disappoints. The food is always delicious. It is just as good if not better than city steakhouses without the downtown prices. My husband and I have been coming here for years and the quality and service is just as great as ever. Congratulations to Elba for keeping things great if not better than ever! Brought a group of 7 in last week and every single person at the table was beyond impressed. We had fish, steak, lamb chops and more. All were fabulous!

Baked french onion soup was okay. The fried chicken was TERRIBLE. The chicken breast was very rubbery. Steak came unevenly cooked, rare on one side and medium on the other. Seemed to be a very cheap cut of meat.

My daughter and I ate here after finding and purchasing a prom dress at Peaches Boutique. We had friendly, quick service and our food was excellent. My personal favorite was the French onion soup and my daughter was surprised how great her fresh cut French fries tasted. Steaks were cooked to order (medium rare) which I'm frequently disappointed in when eating out. Wish we would have saved room for dessert but I guess we can try the chocolate mousse if we happen to return.

Old school vibe with great service and food. Down to earth people & enjoyable ambience. If you get Sharon as your waitress, you struck gold. For starters, Scallops De Jonghe was succulent. Soup, salad and bread was fresh and filling. Entree, Ribeye was tasty and good and Steercheeseburger was juicy and delicious.Cosmos on point.
