American Old Fashion Ice Cream Parlor

They serve Cedar crest ice cream! Which is some of the best (in my humble opinion)! You could honestly just spend time in this ice cream shop purely for the smells... due to the deliciousness of waffle cones wafting through the air! If you like coconut, get the coconut explosion. It is next level good!

You feel like your back in the 50s , inside this ice cream parlor. The place is beautiful. Loads of flavors of ice cream and wonderful owners and staff. Highly recommend

this place is so cool. first off, some of the best waffle cones I've ever had. second, their shakes look absolutely AMAZING, so do their floats, sundaes, etc.. you can't go wrong. third, the atmosphere here is perfect. it's just a nice, cozy ice cream shop

Must have been a big change in ownership here because all older reviews are gone! After investigating further, it seemed there was a consensus that the owner was rude to customers, but having gone tonight I definitely didn’t run into that.
Employees were kind and even gave me an extra large second scoop which I absolutely didn’t need but absolutely inhaled. I think in general ice cream is getting expensive everywhere so I wasn’t too shook by the $11 for a single and double scoop of ice cream. The flavor options along with the old fashioned ice cream parlor feel alone are worth the trip for me. We went on a Friday night at 6pm and it was nearly dead. Served quickly, ate inside and enjoyed the view, and were out of there. I really enjoyed it! Had a scoop of maple walnut and blueberry with waffle cone pieces. Partner had the elephant tracks. We will return and maybe my review will change, but gotta show love to a place that’s clearly putting in an effort.

I hate to leave a review like this but had to be honest.

The ice cream was fine. I had a root beer float so it masked the actual ice cream itself, but I'm not docking points because of the ice cream.

As stated before, I ordered a root beer float. I looked at a menu on the counter and it said floats were $7. So I ordered one. Two scoops of French vanilla ice cream and root beer...

...A 12oz can of Barqs.

They gave the whole can which was nice, I'm not anti-Coca Cola or anything but honestly, for the price I expected a bit better quality of root beer. Maybe a draft root beer, something out of a bottle perhaps. Especially considering what happened next.

I go to pay and it rings up well north of $10, since I paid card that increased the price to $11. I didn't add anything else. The float rang up as $10 plus tax.

There was no other menu with prices that I could see. Now, if there had been an explanation that prices had been changed I would have taken that into account. Or if the price had been correct in the first place, I'd probably have given 4 stars. But even at $7 I still think it'd be 4 stars, especially since for such premium ice cream they use a mass produced canned root bee. And not only is it not stated in the menu, but also was not on display either.

I might give them another chance at some point, but probably not for a float.

Just driving through and the ice cream tasted great. Quick service, many flavours to choose from, recommended to try again

We tried twice to go there after dinner. They say they close at 9pm on yhw weekends. Friday we were there at 8:15 pm, closed. Saturday at 6:05 pm, closed.

Came to galena one definet stop was here with the family but sadly they where closed disappointing but we'll have to return in the future

There were three couples in the store and we were the first ones. After taking our order she then waited on the next group. Then we were able to pay. The ice cream was good but it started to melt while we waited to pay.

First ice cream shop I've ever been to that doesn't give out samples....I was rudely told this when I asked. That's cool, I'll just go to the Great American Popcorn store across the street where you can sample all 25 of their ice cream flavors....

We normally offer samples.... but this is not normal times. We are not able to offer samples because of the Covid restrictions. I'm sorry that you were spoken to rudely.

The gentleman making waffle cones was friendly & outgoing when we peeked into the shop. While waiting for our ice cream, we wandered around looking at all the interesting items displayed throughout the parlor. Everyone was friendly and one scoop was More than enough!! Can't wait to visit again.

The American Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor is so nostalgic. Reminded me of my childhood days at our local drug store, that had an ice cream counter! I had the lemon sorbet in a waffle cone, and absolutely LOVED it.
