We visited during Oktoberfest weekend, so we made a reservation just to be safe. I’m not sure if that’s normally necessary, but I didn’t want to risk it. The morning of, we noticed the weather was perfect and asked to move our reservation outside — they accommodated us with no problem.
They started us off with chips and pico de gallo. I asked for extra salsa roja and salsa verde. The pico had a nice kick, the roja had a smoky flavor, and the verde was more on the roasted side. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a big fan of the verde, which was a bummer since it’s usually my favorite. The chunky guac, though, was a solid 10/10.
The margarita flights were 30% off, so that was an easy choice. Tons of flavor options to pick from, which was fun. For my main, I went with the Suizo burrito topped with melted Chihuahua cheese. I didn’t love it — maybe I’m spoiled living in the Quad Cities where we’ve got incredible Mexican spots on every corner. Something about it just felt a little off.
To top it off, we were constantly swatting away flies at our table, which didn’t help. Still, the service was great — our server was super friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a good dinner, and I’d definitely go back… just to try something different next time.

What a find! The food was very good. We went on a Tuesday and my husband ordered the $3 tacos for taco Tuesday. I had the enchiladas both were flavorful. Our server was outstanding. Very attentive. The margaritas- excellent. If your in town, sit outside and enjoy.

Had the worse experience at this restaurant. Our server Joe was amazing. The food was awful. taco bell would have been way better. I ordered a steak burrito the steak was probably from last week. Rice was dry and the beans I don’t think I would call them beans. The 5 star reviews you see the restaurant is creating. Someone from my group wrote a review and a 5 star review was created mocking their review. This place is a scam. I would never recommend this restaurant. I wouldn’t even have my dog eat here. Manager was very disrespectful along with a server that was not taking care of us. Save your money and your stomach and go somewhere else. Galena has so many other amazing restaurants this is not one of them.

The food was extremely overpriced for the quality, and when I ordered a burrito I was given an option that wasn’t clearly explained. It ended up adding a $3 charge for cheese, which I only realized after the fact. I’m sure it was on the menu, but the way it was presented made it seem like a standard part of the dish.
Our waiter Joe was attentive and incredible, so this isn’t about him at all. The problem was another waitress who overheard our private conversation and came over to scold me, insisting the charge was on the menu and that saying we didn’t like the food was “disrespectful.” Even after I explained that we had no issue with our server and meant no disrespect, she continued arguing.
When we brought this to the manager, his response was simply, “She overheard you, what am I supposed to do?”
We left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. We do not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
Update: after I posted this review, I noticed a sudden influx of generic 5-star reviews clearly written by AI. It seems the restaurant is trying to bury criticism rather than address it, which only confirms the unprofessionalism we experienced.

Campeche is a hidden gem in Galena--it can be found just around the corner from the heavy foot traffic of the narrow sidewalks on Main Street and provides the choices of dining on a spacious patio, covered deck or indoors. This, combined with friendliness of the entire staff and the quality of the food, keep my husband and I coming back several times each month. The 5-star rating (I would give more stars if I could) make it well-worth the 40 minute drive from our home. It is hard to recommend specific items on the menu as everything I have tried has been delicious and fresh, so just trust your own taste when you order!

No surprise that Campeche Restaurant was recently featured on the Food Channel - It is a stand-out! The authentic Mexican food they serve is fabulous; and there’s more than enough served on each plate for at least another meal! I recommend making reservations on weekends because this friendly, accommodating, family restaurant is very popular with Galena tourists and locals.
This is hands down the best Mexican restaurant on Galena, if not all of Illinois. The wait staff was super attentive and sat us IMMEDIATELY. When we went to order drinks, they had like a million margarita options. And the food? INCREDIBLE! It was all fresh, perfectly cooked, and made me feel like I was actually in Mexico. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to have a fun evening.

First I would like to share that our server Joe was amazing. He had great services and brought us everything we asked for. He made our night somewhat bearable. Unfortunately another server who was NOT our serve overheard a private conversation and preceded to call us disrespectful because we did not like some of the items we had order.
After this interaction we paid our bill and asked for a manager to discuss our experience. After explaining the interaction the manager preceded to say “I’m not sure what you would like me to say” as the serve was throwing a dirty rag over my shoulder into a bucket in front of me.
I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone who has prior experience at a Mexican restaurant.
