Kinda crazy how folks will judge this hardworking fella that is just trying to make a living. You’re clearly judging him because of his sexuality which is embarrassing. David..and you call him David like you know him. His children…his life. You have no idea. Perhaps we should just appreciate “David”. Christ.

In town for a visit and stopped here for a drink. The female bartender was awesome (and slammed busy). Best prices in town. Place was so friendly and drinks were so strong we came back two more times. Lots of bad reviews about the male bartender but we only saw two ladies and they were great. Highly recommend.

I’m a local and frequent the pub. I have always found it to be a very friendly atmosphere along with great prices. It is usually a blend of locals and tourists, and we all get along wonderfully. Welcome to Galena / We love our visitors.

Been going to the VFW since late 1990’s. This was always the “fun” place in Galena. However, when the commander made the decision to make David the manager, the place went to hell. He is the most unfriendly, condescending jerk to ever serve behind a bar. I was in there last week and stood at the bar for over 5 min while he visited at the end of the bar. He saw and ignored me. The bar was not busy. He should be fired or the commander replaced. We love Sandy and Debbie, however, we don’t like the place anymore and are taking our money elsewhere because of David!! There are also several phony 5 star reviews from “ local guides” so please disregard them.

Our visits for the past 15 years to Galena always included a visit to the VFW. Our visit this past weekend was not as welcoming. During Galenas wine parade in November we entered the VFW to no welcome from the bartender. This man who represented this organization and so many from the VFW did not acknowledge us nor respect any person or Veteran in the place. No welcome and total disregard to all customers. The bartender was the topic of most of the customers conversations and it was all negative. We ended that visit to the VFW quickly. Our return visit Saturday evening was more like all our previous years. A very warm welcome and great hospitalityIf the Post Commander is reading this I do hope they make a change to who they put behind the bar to represent there post and understand each customer and more importantly all that have served or continue to serve deserve the respect and acknowledgment of any person you have representing the VFW daily.

I have stopped there for about 25 years now. Bartender on the Friday after Thanksgiving definitely was rude. Basically was saying he didn't care for people tgat aren't from Galena. Seems odd for a VFW club.

I frequently visit Galena and all of it's amazing shops, bars and eateries. After my most recent trip in September for my bachelorette party, I have a newfound love for this VFW location. My crew seriously had a BLAST playing music from the jukebox and interacting with the locals and bartenders. We made our own dance floor and spent hours here making our own playlists and playing drinking games. The drinks here are great prices and are a refreshing break from other locations on the downtown scene.I would highly recommend this as a stop in your nightlife!

Bartender Dave is rude. Been coming to Galena for 10 years or so. The bartender acts like it's a chore to serve the customers. Every single time, every single year.

Let me start off by saying I'm a midwesterner, born and bred. I love dive bars. I can handle friendly banter and mixed politics. But when you walk into a bar and the male bartender is blatantly rude to customers at the jump -- it's pretty off-putting. It's not about being "bougie" or fancy; it's called basic human decency. It's a shame this bartender is still employed here after multiple negative reviews on several sites. I would not recommend this place, and there are many other joints to patronize in Galena that appreciate the business!

On Monday, 8/14 @ roughly 2:40 your bartender refused to serve us/my handicapped brother. All he had was 3 drinks over a period about 2 hours. My husband was also there sitting in a wheelchair as he's an amputee. My brother also is handicapped, he walks with a limp and a cane. I had my Sevice Animal as well. She's a 7 lb. Yorkipoo that is my PTSD service Animal. She simply said goodbye. Her actions are worthy of a lawsuit. I'm prepared to do so. This bartender offered no reason whatsoever, even when asked. We certainly were far from drunk and disorderly. Said bartender was very involved with chatting with her friends, she certainly must have issues with handicapped people. None of the 3 of uscan figure out what we'd done. She certainly didn't turn down my tips. She's in big trouble now...

I don't quite comprehend *how* this (or any) post gets by with being open to the public, *BUT* I support it. The VFW, as a whole, is down on recruiting efforts post-Vietnam. So, if we can get funding from civilians--so be it. "No one does more for veterans" requires money to stay alive. GWOT (Afghanistan/Iraq, OIF/OEF) such as myself aren't getting actively involved enough--although that's a different story for a different setting. Back to this particular post, errrr bar. As a life member, I was not afforded the opportunity to tour the post. I found that odd. Disheartening really. But, I wasn't gonna die on that hill. I just wanted a friendly place, good banter, and some drinks. This place was all that.Listen y'all, don't come in here if you're a boujee snob and can't take some off colored comments about bathroom breaks. Lol Leave your politics at the door, don't be rude, and then this is the place for you... I can't imagine going anywhere else.

Honestly if you're about broke spending 15 bucks on a drink at every other touristy spot in galena, this is your saving grace. No bells and whistles. No drinks concocted by college kids or old men. Simple stuff. Beer, spirits and mixers. You won't find anything "muddled" here. We bought three beers, three cocktails and a bag of chips for a grand total of 17.50. Not lying. It was a nice break for the wallet.

Came into town on a Monday and had a great time Monday and Tuesday, hit the town and finished at the VFW both nights. Wednesday bartenders were a waste of time. Had to work for our drinks. Found another place to finish Wednesday night. Wasn’t going to waste my money there Wednesday.
