We don’t live near a Waffle House, and it’s been a bucket list item for my daughter to go. We went out of our way to eat there as a Valentine’s Day surprise and were politely greeted by our waitress, Ashley. Our food arrived and my daughter’s chocolate chip waffle and hash browns were everything she dreamed they would be. This bucket list item was so far a success! Until it wasn’t… towards the end of our meal, a gathering of employees were having an audible conversation at the counter, no big deal… until one threw out the R word and immediately my heart sank. What could have been a dream-come-true trip for my autistic daughter suddenly became anything but. You could literally see the bomb drop on her and she no longer felt welcome or safe surrounded by people casually throwing out words that are used like weapons against her and disabled people like her. Not a single employee flinched or corrected them and we sat there in the aftermath, convincing her that this time it wasn’t directed at her and hoping our check would come. After we paid, I asked our party to go ahead to the car. I explained what happened to the cashier at the counter and was purposefully genuine and calm when explaining the impact their thoughtlessness had on my child. They apologized that I was offended (as if my being easily offended was the problem, not their offensive actions) but nothing would be gained by arguing my point further. So I left, hoping at the very least no one else with a disability would feel the disparagement we had at Waffle House. My gentle attempt at awareness however, was met with a 2 handed middle finger salute waved wildly by another employee at the end of the counter as soon as my back turned. The icing on the cake? My child got to witness that through the window too.
Stick to serving waffles, not hate. My daughter didn’t deserve that.

Waffle House delivered on the food front, serving up exactly what you’d expect – classic diner comfort food done right. Waffle House is a classic. The waffles were fluffy, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and they did a great job accommodating allergies, which was a big plus. Love how there was a stamp on the waffle with the Waffle House logo.
That said, there were a couple of downsides. They forgot the chocolate chips in our waffle, which was a bit of a letdown. On top of that, it was to-go only, so we couldn’t eat inside. Losing the sit-down experience took away some of the charm and fun that comes with eating indoors at Waffle House. It was also freezing cold outside which made it much harder to wait for the food too.
Overall, though, the food was solid, and I appreciated their attention to dietary needs for our group. I’d come back, but next time I would hope to get the full Waffle House experience next time – chocolate chips and a table inside!

Food was cooked perfectly to order! This WH is located in an area of Granite City formerly known more for semi trucks and late night guests. But the place has super improved and cleaner than most we've been to!! The younger staff should remember it's an open concept, floor plan and when making comments out front WORDS CAN BE HEARD by customers! Therefore, when making snarky comments about your own customer, not wise to do so in front of us - IDIOT! We called her out and the smartest move she did was to hand our table off to another server. Manager never walked over, but cooks and new server were amazing and much appreciated!!!

First time to ever eat at the Granite City Waffel house. Good service and the breakfast we had at 2 in the afternoon were delicious. I had a waffle, hashbrowns, and grits with sugar! So good! Our server was cool!
Food was freshly cooked in front of us. It really didn't have any flavor. I would definitely say the place isn't exactly the cleanest place. But it's a hole in the wall. One waitress, one cook. That's it. Not a bad place but food definitely brought the score way down.

Its a little rough around the edges but it a great place to get your breakfast fix. This waffle house is by a truck stop so you will see some people you may find intimidating. But you should never judge a book by its cover

I had a waffle with toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and tomato slices (in lieu of grits). The food was delicious.
The diner is very small and the server was literally screaming while speaking to co workers. Not a hateful scream but an extremely loud voice. It was very unpleasant to listen to while attempting to enjoy my dinner.
