Faye & Joe's Southern Bowl

Went to this establishment yesterday(09/22/25) for the first and last time. We ordered the catfish dinner(the catfish was ok), meatloaf dinner ( was ok) and short rib dinner( not well seasoned nor cooked long enough). The sides were Mac n cheese(dry like the photo on their website), collard greens( had a nice taste to them but a little undercooked for my liking) yams (missing a whole lot of everything) red beans and rice( just horrible) black eyed peas and rice( horrible as well). The young lady taking our order seemed to be overwhelmed and had a nasty attitude until the manager came up front. Asked the lady whom was taking our order could we get fresh Mac n cheese because she was scrapping the side of the empty dish to give us what was stuck to the sides and she replied she has to give us that and they are not allowed to get a new pan until every bit is out of the pan all with a take or leave it attitude. Along comes a lady that I thought was the owner, asked her if she was the owner and she informed me that she wasn’t and that she’s a manager. I asked her how long do they keep the food out before switching it out, or what the policy that they have about the freshness of the food, she looked me dead in my face and said “First of all, Do you see how many people are in here?” “Does it look like anything stays out long around here?” “And to answer your question, everything is switched out when everything thing is completely empty.” “You have the option to step aside and wait for a fresh pan to be brought out or get something else.” I guess she told me huh? The only reason I kept it cute was one because people are always saying that “We’re are own worst enemy.” And two I still wanted to give the food a try which they say “Don’t judge a book by its cover. Cause although the place was packed the food was dry and nasty just like their attitudes. Business owner to Business owner, “It doesn’t matter how many customers you have coming through that door, But it most definitely matters how many will continue to return and support!!”

Horrible customer service, was here to pick up a DoorDash and was treated very poorly and cursed at because I said I was skipped in line with their number system, then they decided to lie to me and say the customer cancelled the order, I reported them to DoorDash and DoorDash also confirmed customer did not cancel, so DoorDash gave me the pay anyways and un assigned the order but I would not recommend going here, very unprofessional and rude staff.

I got oxtails that were not seasoned just boiled in water some of the salt that was on the dressing should have been used to season the oxtails it the Mac and cheese was good

My first time trying today serve was good and fast but the food was not that good salmon was dry macaroni was dry yams was the only thing I really ate corn bread muffin was dehydrated lol seem like it was missing an ingredient probably won't be back

Customer service was excellent! Food is GOOD 👍🏾👍🏾 😋 smoke chicken is highly recommended 🔥 😋

Soul food at it's best

Visiting my family in the area and stopped here. This place looks great upon entering. Clean and inviting. Love the setup too! Hey in line, order and go. Some items were out but were being replaced. The catfish didn’t look appealing. Fried too dark and looked very dry. But never fear a hot pan of chicken wings were just coming out and looked delicious. I ordered that plus greens, Mac, and a side of yams. Extra corn bread but my sweets since I saw no pound cake and was told only the coconut cake remained. It was 4ish on a Saturday, for reference. Understandable. I was excited about the price versus the amount of food. So, let’s review the food. Yams are 20 outta 10. Greens are delicioussss with just the right amount of kick. Chicken wings a little in the salty side but tastes good. That Mac and cheese…it’s a no. Creamy, burnt cheese on top and I just knew it was going to hit. Nope! It tasted like it was too sour. I’ve also read a lot of reviews tonight and the Mac and cheese comes in often as a no. My suggestion would be to work on a new Mac and cheese recipe. Listen to your patrons. You have what it takes to REMAIN a successful business. The people love what you’re serving, most of it. Good job! I’ll be back to visit family again and I plan on giving it another try. I would have given 3.5 but Mac and cheese is like super important to me and my meal.

Honestly I've visited this place more than I'd like to admit. Everything new is good at first, but it's definitely not what I thought. The fish is good, chicken wings are ok, meatloaf will do. The macaroni 1/5 looks good, but doesn't taste like anything. You can tell there aren't any eggs in it and it's just put together. The greens 3/5 they're edible, yams 4/5, dressing 2/5 dry as ever and the muffin 5/5 is good... The drink fountain is never working and the have a small selection of drinks. I hate that when they take your order they put your sides inside the container and you're waiting for your protein to be brought up. Meanwhile your sides are cold and protein is hot. The point system rarely works, but shocking it was working on my last visit. There has been one that recently opened near me in Merrillville and I thought that one would be better, but it's definitely the same. I wish they were able to take constructive criticism well, but you love and learn. Wishing them the best of LOCK moving forward.

The food was ok. It's a good sign when people frequent your restaurant, but it's a deadly thing when you have as many leaving because you are too slow at plating, taking payments, and seating/or to-go meals. Today we decided to try them again. They close at 7pm, we got there before 5pm and they were closed for the day ??? Sorry ?

it’s overrated! i had the mac and cheese, stringbeans and meat loaf, the food ain’t got no seasoning, taste like out of a can stringbeans.. the mac is real cheesy, but no type of flavor, the food is so bland ?

The customer service from the older shorter lady with the braids is not pleasant at all. If she works in a restaurant she needs to be trained how to interact with customers. The way she speaks to you is disgusting, if customers irritate her that much she should find a new profession. Today wasn’t the first day for her behavior. The restaurant needs to take accountability for her actions.
