What a great find! Food was really good. Reminded me of stuff we had in New Orleans. Big portions. Super friendly and helpful service. Absolutely worth a stop.

We came here last minute spot but let me tell you as a mexican person whole had soul food and grew up in the ghetto this place is delicious the catfish and the the fried ribs to the sweet potato which I love so much if you love sweet it was really good. And if you get a drink before you eat like a Long Island ice tea which they make super strong I highly recommend this place so much !!! Loved it p.s the Mac and cheese was also delicious

I'm not even finished eating but I stopped to give my review now. I just left the restaurant and I couldn't be happier. The atmosphere was small and quaint which I did like. I am a southern transplant and have been searching for some good soulfood.
So happy I tried Vari's tonight. The collards were so tender and just the right amount of vinegar. And the smothered porkchops had me humming because they were so good. Oh and the service.
I wish I asked the young lady her name at the register but she was so patient with me. She answered each question I had with a smile. Just her attitude made me feel so welcomed. My son's catfish was also delicious. It was seasoned well amd fried to perfection! I definitely will order food from here again.

The vibes are here but the food doesn’t match. Extremely oily and not tasteful but not disgusting either. I wouldn’t recommend.

Whenever I try a restaurant, I will go a few times. The first time my family and myself went, we had the buffalo wings and they were good, so we decide to keep ordering them over time.
The second time we went, they forgot to put the order in because they didn’t have the fryers on at the right time and we waited an extra 15 minutes, but the food was great. We didn’t mind the wait, we get it that things happen.
The third time, I placed the order online. When I arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes later, the estimated time of completion, they said there was no order in for myself. So I asked are you sure? I then showed them my confirmation number and they said oh! We didn’t see your order in the system. I said okay, not a problem, how long will the wait be? They said 25 minutes. I said okay, I’ll be back in 20 minutes. I had no problem with the wait and returned 15 minutes later because I had received a text of my order completion.
Upon arrival the order was ready and I asked if I could have some sides of ranch in compensation for the wait. The cashier said okay let me fill some containers. I said not a problem, thank you. So the cashier goes to fill the ranch and a women from the back comes forward and asks if I needed some help. I said I’m just waiting for the cashier to fill some ranch containers for myself. She then says to herself, you know they normally charge for the ranch. I replied to her, that’s no problem at all, I don’t mind paying for the ranch. She then walks back and tells the cashier to make sure that I get charged for the ranch. The cashier comes up and I tell her that I don’t mind paying for the ranch, but I appreciate you trying. I then pay the $3 for the 3 small ranches.
Upon arrival home, which is 3 minutes from the restaurant, my family and myself pray and then begin to try the buffalo wings. Immediately we all look at each other grossed out. These weren’t the same quality wings as before. They were soggy, cold and not good quality at all. It was very disappointing eating even one of these wings and we ordered 24. I wish the quality had stayed the same, or even the service had improved, but it didn’t. We will not be returning and we hope this review helps the restaurant make the changes in the right direction.

Vari’s Southern Cuisine is a true gem for anyone who loves authentic Southern food. I had the pleasure of trying their great fried rib at the Bellwood Fest, and it was absolutely incredible. The ribs were perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, offering a flavor explosion that’s hard to beat. If you’re a fan of comfort food done right, this is a must-try. The rest of the menu holds its own, but the fried rib is something special that you won’t find just anywhere. The atmosphere at their booth was warm and welcoming, making it a great spot to enjoy a hearty meal. Highly recommended!

The greens were waaaayy too salty! Will literally have your blood pressure through the roof! The oxtails were REALLY good and the red beans and rice was bland…there was no seasoning. Overall for my first experience 5/10

I ordered the smothered pork chop dinner. I had mac & cheese and greens. The greens were very salty. I couldn’t eat them. The mac & cheese did not taste good at all. I’m not sure what they put in it, but it had a strange sour taste to it. The pork chops were just OK, look like they took fried pork chops and poured gravy over so they weren’t really smothered just pork chops with gravy on them. Employees, however were fantastic. They were very friendly very accommodating and very nice.. And the atmosphere is very nice and somewhat romantic. We love Soul Food restaurants and they are so few please guys step it up. Thank you.

I ordered the chicken dinner meal and a soul food egg roll. The Mac and cheese was nasty, I couldn’t even eat it. I’m not sure if the cheese was spoiled or they mixed too many different cheeses but it was not good at all. The chicken and red beans and rice were both ok, chicken was just a bit too salty. The soul food egg roll was not good because of the Mac and cheese. Workers were very pleasant and had great customer service.

Happen to be in the area from Fort Worth, Texas where] soul food restaurants don't really exist] for our 60th Family Reunion up in Hillside, IL and the food was good, had a great taste, the gravy was a 10/10 and the fried ribs and the greens were 10/10, the gravy and rice 10/10 and the Mac and Cheese was 8/10, other than that, the food was 10/10 on portions, and if I ever come back to the area I would come back!!!!

Super good
I Ordered through doordash .. food was a solid 7.5... I specifically called to make sure they added the tarter sauce..order came .. and no tarter sauce, its the little things that matter you know. .. the soul rolls were good but it needs a house made dipping sauce to set it off besides the prepackaged sweet and sour sauce. ... Also it says rolls so I assumed 2 would come with it, but it was only 1 .. so maybe specify that in the description more .Everything was good overall.. I probably should've gotten some dessert.
